So now he wants Canelo to fight smaller guys!

If the Berto/Ortiz winner were to win a meaningful fight or two at 154 I'd like this idea but not straight from their fight to a fight with Alvarez. There's plenty of options for Alvarez at 154, I'd rather see him face contneders there instead of one of these guys moving up.

I personally believe Spinks/Bundrage winner deserves that payday more than anyone else at 154 but nobody really wants to see that and Boxing is a business. With that said, I'd be cool with Canelo versus any of these guys...Kirkland has an exciting style, an interesting story and a colorful trainer to say the least. Cotto will still be relevant if he loses to Money...assuming he makes it competitive. Berto/Ortiz winner would be interesting as both guys throw leather and go for the win...now that Berto has thankfully moved past his slap and grab phase.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how everything shakes out. No matter what happens, all roads lead to a confrontation with Chavez Jr. in late 2013 or 2014.

A Kirkland-Berto/Ortiz winner showdown would be epic.

I knew he wouldnt fight Kirkland

These are just talks though..... but still, I dont expect to be wow'd by Canelos next opponent choice.

However, if it is Berto/Ortiz winner, there are worse fights out there and Id def like the fight.

But really, its supposed to be Kirkland next (if not mayweather) for Canelo, but they seem intent on not giving him his shot.

:huh show me the part where it's say this fight is sealed and done... it's a consideration same as Cotto/Kirkland/Berto-Ortiz winner.

I know Canelo's camp doesn't even want an in Between they want to go straight to the winner next.

Thats a fight that never crossed my mind before, but I'd agree with you, it would be a pretty good fight. Its a fight that could be made too since GBP and DiBella are the promoters involved.

I think Berto/Ortiz is more likely to want Khan when he moves up than Kirkland but if either does move up then a fight with Kirkland would be great.

Canelo vs Ortiz/Berto/Kirkland all sound like good fights to me. I wouldn't complain about either one.

I edited my post before I seen your response.

No doubt, all those are good fights, it just cracks me up how Canelos people are avoiding Kirkland. Canelo was supposed to fight the winner of Angulo vs Kirkland (back when Kirkland destroying Angulo was a fantasy).

Hey, if Canelo fights Kirkland next I will be overjoyed and eat humble pie with a smile.

    However, doubt it happens.

I think Kirkland won because GBP wanted that Kirkland fight, legitimate fight... and a PPV hit or fan attraction. Also another option I can see Kirkland taking K9's belt then unify with Canelo in september I can also see that playing out. I wanna see what Canelo is gonna do septemeber...Can't wait.

I wouldnt mind Kirkland vs K9 but talking realistically I just doubt that happens too. K9 is a Don King fighter and is being held by King, for King. I dont see him letting go of his title anytime soon. If anything I see King matching Mayorga up with the winner of K9 vs Spinks. No matter what happens, out of any potential fights between those three, King keeps his belt.

All I know is that James Kirkland was told if he went to Mexico and took on Angulo, it would be an eliminator to face Canelo.

Kirkland took the risk, won impressively, and is now getting the shaft. There shouldnt be talks as to who Canelo is fighting next, it should simply be "Canelo is fighting Kirkland next, after that were looking to matching the winner there with the winner of Berto/Ortiz"

    just imo.

But I do agree that it will be interesting to see who he does wind up picking.... lots of good fights there for him right now. Winner of Ortiz/Berto would be no walkover and would be a step up for Canelo imo.

a fight against Ortiz/Berto who are pretty big for WW would be a good fight. I do agree he should fight a top 154 pounder, but this may be a bigger test than a lot of the guys in his division would give him

Ortiz weighs about 160+ on the days of his fights as does Berto and it would yield a bigger payday versus anybody else at 154.
