Oscar De La Hoya:"Everybody knows it's impossible to work with Bob Arum"

That's the extremely charitable way of framing it. The more realistic version of course is that those are fights where Top Rank fighters entered as favorites, in some cases big favorites. This philosophy isn't limited to working with Golden Boy either, but pretty much applies to working with any other promoter these days.

 

Golden Boy is just as bad. Remember when Bob Arum was begging for a Mayweather-Margarito fight? GB knew that Margarito had Floyd's number, and blocked the fight, regardless of all the money Arum threw at them.

Both GP and TR are hurting the sport by not letting fights happen. This time GB has the fighter who would win (Floyd) and TR has the fighter who would lose (Pacquiao), so of course it's TR who is blocking the fight.

That has nothin to do with it. Floyd doesnt wanna fight manny either, he's making plenty of money taking less risky fights. And there's a ton of ego and bull**** going on between TR, Floyd, and GBP that's keeping the fight from happening too.

its not impossible working with TR. Its impossible CO-promoting it. Arum doesn't want Oscar making another dime off of double contract Manny Pacquiao.

 

GBP has only been around for about 10 years while Top Rank has been around almost 40 yet they have the same amount of pull and top class fighters. Oscar is doing a great job and is just getting started. Arum also has a big company, but is on his way out. (sooner rather than later hopefully)

 

I couldn't agree more with Oscar here. Top Rank and Arum are full of **** and don't want to make fights.
