Ridiculously tough fighter, amazing resume, got robbed out of his best wins by the judges. In his prime he had an anvil chin, sledgehammer left hook and excellent speed, skill and movement. Oscar's no cakewalk for any ww in history. People hate on ODLH but he ****ing brought it against the toughest guys he could find.
Another thought is that Oscar had stamina issues as he got older. Given that he was a savage finisher when young using those very same flurries, the evidence woudl suggest that he was smart to punch selectively in his later career to conserve his energy.
I was ringside. Oscar never hurt Sturm, but Sturm couldn't be bothered to ever do more than jab, jab jab. Nearly everyone I was sitting with and nearby thought Oscar won the fight on sheer willingness to punch. Sturm had that fight, he did NOTHING to take it. He has nothing to complain about.
Oscar was better than most people give him credit. He burned himself out by talking so many hard fights cause he fought for his legacy. The oscar of the 90's and early 2000s clearly does even better ppv numbers with the new technology, apps, twitter and social media at the convenience of you phone. Closes thing to him might possibly be canelo in terms of marketing ability.
So that's how it works in your world. In order to be labeled a great fighter you gotta cherry-pick your opponents:good
