That is right people I said it and I mean it too. I was reading a thread earlier and I saw someone question the Golden Boy as a fighter and I was shocked and then enraged. In my opinion the Golden Boy is an ATG no not top ten, but top 25 garenteed. His resume is very misleading and if anyone paid attention to his losses they would realize his greatness. Felix Trinidad- DLH first "loss". Watch the fight then go vote in my poll DLH won and is also winning the Poll right now Shane Mosley I- In my opinion DLH Only real loss he just didn't have it that night. Shane Mosley II- This fight should just be stricken from the record books due to Mosley's blood doping before the fight, but even though Mosley was cheating he still was only able to win the fight by one round. Bernard Hopkins- No there was no cheating in this fight I just want to make the point that DLH started his pro career at 134LB and Bernard made his first appearence at 174LB a fourty pound difference. And on top of that DLH moved up a weight class and in only his second fight as a middleweight fought the best in the world. Floyd Mayweather Jr.- Well DLH was well past his prime and managed to give the P4P king some troubles in this fight. also many people think that DLH is huge compared to PBF, but that is not true there careers started at about the same weight and they both moved up until they were comfortable (PBF 147) (DLH 154). Oscar is two inches taller and only had a one inch advantage in reach so really the fight was pretty evenly matched. Please lets here some comments about the Golden Boy of boxing
I too feel Oscar is underated as a fighter and gets downplayed too much. He gets negative comments by people who forgot what he has acomplished.
We could reasonably argue that Oscar fought P4P the toughest competition you could ask from a fighter, throughout his career !
I think he is an underated boxer who under achieved. he won the tito fight hands down. would of beat mosley in their first fight if he had of boxed more behind his jab instead of trying to blast him out. he beat mosley 2nd time around. oscar doesnt get the credit he desrves for beating a much bigger and stronger excellent boxer in vargas. dont forget that oscar hadnt fought for over a year going into that But i still feel that he could of been a lot better if he had of applied himself better. having too much money in the back had a great effect on many of his performances (tito, quartey). i think that if oscar was not the draw that he was, he would of been considered more talented AND better than Jones jNR. if he was forced to want it more, we would of seen much better performances
hes a great theres no doubt the guy just gets disrespected for his personal life. As a boxer and regarding his career he took on the best and always gave a good fight.Very impressive resume. Oscar beat tito no doubt!
Just goes to show you that sometimes a great boxer with excellent skills, prestigious amateur pedigree, and the desire to fight the very best does not always garner everybody's respect like he should. The hatred for De La Hoya on this site amazes me. What else did people want him to do, honestly?
Yeah, DLH hate really runs deep. He's one of my favorite fighters, though, and I hope he closes out his career with a win against someone not Pac.
Good post. Oscar De La Hoya doesn't get a fraction of the recognition he deserves from boxing fans. He has consistently fought the toughest competition throughout his career. He has used his popularity to bring boxing back into the public's eye with his mega-fight with Floyd mayweather - resulting in a ressurgence of the sport itself.
All depends what do you mean by underated. People might say whatever they want to say. But he has made a lot of millions. In this country(USA) looks count more than talents. I am not saying DLH have not talents. The guy is great. So is PBF. But true is they have made more money due to their looks and personalities than their talents. People just love to see them. At the end of the day is all about the money. DLH is the guy who made women go to watch fights. Thats a fact.
I think he is unnderrated but I think the Trinidad "loss" affected him psychologically. Hoya made the mistake of leaving many fights up to the judges who gave or take in what seemed arbitrary manners. If we look at Hoya's controversial fights in the right manner we can see he still is all class. These are just the controversial ones. Draw Whitaker (not bad as he was ranked P4P#1 at the time and Hoya was entering a new division) Losses Mosley 1 Felix Sturm Bernard Hopkins Floyd Mayweather Jr. Wins Felix Trinidad Mosley 2
Beat me to it:twisted: I agree with just about all your picks; the only dissenting one is the Whitaker fight, which I had Sweet Pea edging. Nevertheless, ODLH's resume is stacked with high quality names and there are still more to come (we have all heard the talk about Cotto and Pac). He fought the best of his era in and around his weight. Fair play to him.:good
