Yeah, I never got the Cuevas love either. Lots of rematches against guys he'd already KTFO. No hall of famers on his resume either, and got BRUTALIZED by every elite fighter he fought.

I think it's how he won more than anything. Like if Oscar had stayed at lightweight and KTFO of everyone.

I thought Sturm won that fight 7 to 5, but contrary to popular demand, a one round fight is NOT a robbery. However, I'll always remember the feeling watching that fight with my dad that there was no way DLH was losing that match because the Hopkins-DLH championship match was signed already, lol.

I mean a lot of these fights, especially at close to 2am, run together for me, but I know I think DLH beat Mosley the second time, and I think I thought the Tito fight was a draw. I have at least four fights to re-watch (or in the Sweet Pea Hurtado fight, for the first time) now based on this conversation, lol.

Oscar ran towards the end, thus he lost some rounds, plus Tito was agressive, just like Oscar was against Whitaker. IMO, you should not get credit for ineffective agression. I'm a huge Mosley fan, and even I thought Oscar was robbed. But with Oscar there are always a different set of rules and standards.

If Don King wasn't involved he'd have had his greatest moment. He somehow won the 12th for god's sake

For JM I will throw a (and I quote from JM) a "Ruined" Vargas on the list with Quartey (Debatable if ever an A class fighter), and close to the end of the line Whitaker (lots of argument about the decision)

He should have mixed it up more. We all expected a better fight than that. But, he did outclass Tito in every way possible.

Looking back I had Oscar/Whitaker something really weird like 113-111 for Oscar because of all the point deductions. I had Oscar beating Trinidad 6-5-1 and him beating Mosley in the rematch by 7-5 (pretty close scores to show I'm not completely biased)

But there is no way in hell he won the Sturm fight. Oscar kept it competitive but he didn't win it. There is a big difference IMO than a close competitive fight and a fight that could have went either way. Turns out Sturm isn't all that bad though, either.

Can't wait to watch this and his fight with DLH this weekend may report back with a score, if I remember, haha. Did download a cheesy boxing app, so I find myself scoring random fights on tv at 2am when I can't sleep, ha.

It's no coincidence that Don King's biggest stars Holy and Tito got their biggest gifts against their most dangerous competition.

And it's also why I believe Trinidad took so damned long to step up. He did jack from 95-99 while Rivera, Whitaker, McGirt, Page, Lopez, and Quartey were there.

I always blamed the fact that Tito was on Shotime. I'll admit that Whitaker and Oscar always fought the best available fighters.

Roy Jone @ 170 - Former HW champ enough said!
Winky Wright @ 160 - No excuse, Tito looked bad in this one.
Bernard Hopkins @ 160 - Former Light Heavyweight champ.

    William Joppy - @ 160 - KTFO in Five!!!!
Ricardo Mayorga @ 160 - What a fight! Tito softened him up now everybody wants to fight Mayorga.

    @ 154 and Below, Look!!!!

    Pernell Whitaker - HOF
Oscar De La Hoya - Undefeated when they met
David Reid - Undefeated when they met
Fernando Vargas - Undefeated when they met
Yuri Boy Campas - Undefeated when they met
    Macho Camacho - HOF
Oba Carr - Undefeated when they met
Maurice Blocker - First Tite shot

These are all top tier guys Tito managed to beat all of them most of them below 154lbs, only lost to men much bigger than him that were also better boxers.

Now is he a top 5 all time great WW?

Yeah but none of those guys? Not Quartey, not Lopez, not Page, not McGirt? Trinidad spent a good 5 years doing squat fighting guys like Anthony Stephens.

Oscar fought better fighters in 3 years at 147 than Trinidad did in a decade.
