If he's serious, what makes him think he would do better than his last fight

    Oscar vs Alvarez?

Sounds like he's milking himself (the cashcow) to feed and grow the upcoming superstar.

He's not doing it to better himself. He's doing it to make himself some money, give GBP the push it needs, and provide his next cashcow massive exposure. It's ODH vs JCC all over again, with ODH putting himself in the place of JCC this time.

That's assuming all this is true of course. I personally hope it is.

He needs to stay retired. After his first loss, to Trinidad, he boxed 9 more years and his record was a paltry 8 wins vs. 6 losses. He wasn't fighting "tomato cans", but he was getting beat regularly. Hell, his last 8 fights were 50/50 win/loss.

This reminds me a little of Sugar Ray Leonard when he came back, once again, to fight Hector "Macho" Camacho and got KO'd for his effort. What an embarrassing way to finally end a career. The good thing about that fight was Leonard finally realized he was done as a fighter and hung the gloves up for good.

Oscar should come back on an old guys tour, he should fight some guys his age. It would be good for boxing. An old guys tournament on Showtime or HBO like the super six. It would keep the competition even and make for good fights.

Now that would be one heck of a story!! The son getting revenge for his father, by doing to Oscar exactly what he did his old man.

Well, GBP promote Alvarez in Mexico and America, so assuming this fight made him a bigger star in Mexico and a genuine name in America, De La Hoya would stand to gain millions. Alvarez is only 20, so lets say he has another 10 years as a draw, and that's more than likely. If he can make $10m per fight, which is likely, then GBP would get a significant cut of that. Spread it out over a realistic 2 fights a year over a 10 year period and De La Hoya getting his arse kicked is a good investment.

I think with Pacquiao though, he just saw a star who he could beat. Regardless of how people dismiss the win for Pacquiao now, I remember before the fight how Pacquiao's own fans were praying for him. 90% of posters didn't give him a chance and I think that's how De La Hoya saw it too.

If the Alvarez fight happens, I think it will be comparable to the Hopkins fight. Realistically, De La Hoya is shot and can't beat Alvarez. However, realistically, De La Hoya didn't belong at middleweight and couldn't beat Hopkins, yet he still took that fight because it made Hopkins a star for GBP. I'm sure in the back of his mind, he knew his chances were slim against Hopkins and he probably thinks the same about an Alvarez fight. However, the risk/reward factor plays into it. If he gets beaten up, he'll recover in weeks. His pride won't take a hit and, in return, he'll get a load of money for the fight itself and he'll have made a star who happens to give a % of all his earnings to De La Hoya himself.

Dont get me wrong, it seems to make business sense, doesn't seem very noble though. I think that is the sad thing about DLH, he cares more about money than his reputation, which annoys me, because I to like him as a fighter.

It was a great win for Manny, I did't mean to take a shot at the win, just how DLH performed in the fight, like the way he seemed to be pulling some of his punches, the way he would go back in for punishment when there was a way out of the corner, stuff like that always left me with question marks, stuff like this just heightens my concerns that's all.

Sounds like he is whoring himself out though doesn't it

DLH and JCC Jr would be an exciting fight, and I'd damn sure watch it. JCC Jr is over-rated in most people's eyes, and a dedicated DLH could actually win. May not be FOTY, but it might be the highest-grossing PPV FOTY.
