GGG was willing to get stripped of the belt for fighting Marty so I'm pretty sure he'd have no problem dropping it
to get the Canelo payday.

 

Well Golovkin is the champ, if Canelo wants to earn more than the champ after failing a drug test I think he's being a bit deluded. I'm sure people will go on about a side blah blah, but the champ should never get paid less than the drug cheat.

BJS is a tougher fight for nelo anyways so I'm fine with this fight. Nelo BJS, Golovkin SD, winners can have another round of negotiation.

There's every chance Golovkin and Nelo lose to SD and BJS respectively so it could be a very interesting few months in the MW division.

 

I really can't understand why people feel Golovkin should settle for 35% or something. a) He holds the belts; b) Everyone wants to see this fight, because it was so close the first time - it can't happen if 50% of the boxers don't turn up. GGG is just as important to this match-up at Alvarez; c) the consensus is that Golovkin won the first fight, no matter what the cards said; d) No matter what the truth is, Alvarez is tainted like a piece of Mexican beef now, he should sit down and learn some humility.

This isn't "Alvarez vs. someone", this is Alvarez vs. Golovkin. Golovkin is getting near to the time he needs to think about retirement, if I was him I wouldn't be giving away 30% to Alvarez for any reason at all.

 

Don't kid yourself. Both fighters are letting their egos dictate their decisions.

 

For once we can agree. Both sides playing too-hardball, I've said it before: Golovkin can't expect 50-50 (boxing is a business, unfortunately) but he can expect more than the first fight. 60-40 is approximately the correct financial split, if either side offered that the fan pressure to accept would rightly be enormous.

As a fan I don't mind Canelo fighting someone like Charlo, Saunders, Jacobs or Andrade while Golovkin fights Derevyanchenko - I actually rate Derevyanchenko and give him a good chance at the upset. But I wouldn't be surprised if we got Canelo-Spike and perhaps Golovkin-Murata instead.
