De La Hoya, when borderline shot, was not at all far from beating him. Maybe a round away. So logic says he should be able to beat him or at least be 50/50 in a lot of those other weights.
Above 135 all Deloyhoya. Here's why. As Mayweather Jr. Went up in weight he became more of a safety 1st fighter. That style and mindset would play right into Deloyhoya's hands. Deloyhoya had a great left hand. Very busy and quick jab in his prime , powerful left hook. The best way to deal with a fighter that's fighting out of a defensive posture like Mayweather usually did is keep the jab in his face. That will limit countering opportunities, what May would be looking for. Deloyhoya's speed and jab would be what would win the fight for him. Hell , past prime, off of retirement Deloyhoya gave Mayweather a good fight because of his jabbing ability. Imagine what prime , fast Deloyhoya would do to him.
I lean towards De La Hoya at every weight except 130. Oscar was never a true 130 pounder. He must have had 20 pounds on Bredhal in that farce of a "title fight."
Eh... but Oscar had a way of being in a close fight when the later rounds arrived he sort of played it safe. Mayweather if nothing else is a winner
