Oscar leftovers? Chavez was old and faded when DLH faced him. That fight was bizzaere anyway with a training cut. Should have been postponed. Thats all ya got? Zab Judah was the next Star at 140lbs, ask Max Kellermen. He was primed to take over the division. Undefeated at the time. Both had titles. That was a very good win, certainly in that context. Considering KT stopped him in two and made the kid invent a new dance. Zab Judah is the best win between the two of them at the lighter weights.
Chavez was even more shot when Tzyu beat him. Yes Zab was hyped but still unproven when Kostya exposed his over confidence and lack of defense Oscar won't stand in front of Tzyu and drop his hands ala Zab. He'll utilize his height and reach and excellent fundamentals to box patiently against a pressing Tzyu. Kostya will take punishing shots to get inside and even when he does get in Oscars chest Dela Hoya can match his strength. By the later rounds Kostya should peter out and Oscar will win in a late stoppage or convincing decision.
Way to gloss over (actually not even mention) the crushing ko loss to Vince Phillips who like Dela Hoya could match Tzyu's strength
I agree with most of what you have said here. I believe Oscar was the superior fighter over Tszyu but with that said, I am still a big fan of Tszyu as a fighter. He was just such a technically sound guy that did so many things as a fighter that really impressed me. Head to head I would put my money on Oscar who was the faster/ harder puncher but Tszyu was no slouch. I'm sure some will argue that Tszyu's legendary straight right hand was harder than Oscar's left hook but I don't see it. Oscar was hurting guys all the way up to 154 while Kostya was at 140 his whole career. What Koysta lacked in speed he more than made up with his exceptional timing and ring intelligence. Not sure if others see this or not but he always reminded me of a 140 pound version of Joe Louis with the way he used smart pressure to work openings for that straight right hand.
