Terence Crawford being named the fighter of the year for his work in 2014 was about as premature as when President Obama was given the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, just before he began bombing the living hell out of the Middle East and assassinating specific individuals with laser guided missiles. Beating Gamboa was a nice, entertaining win. But that's really about it. Crawford hasn't done anything else to write home about. I think Crawford is an HBO hype job to the highest order. Their boxing department was really struggling in 2014. They needed some new stars. So they latched on to Crawford. And he's really proven not to be anything special. I don't think he's any better than the Charlos, honestly. (And they don't thrill me either.) On the other hand, Oscar De La Hoya fought everybody and scored more nice, entertaining wins over top names than Crawford will ever see. Crawford doesn't bring anything to the table that Oscar didn't face and defeat. Oscar either stops Crawford in the middle rounds or wins a lop-sided 12-round decision.
