is anyone aware of an interview or any other sound bite where oscar discusses what the hell he was thinking by disengaging down the stretch? After the fight he was crying that he gave a boxing lesson. im just curious to know what made him think this was correct way to go down the stretch with tito.
He says his corner told him to run but that's a lie cuz that simply isn't what they said. If you're easily outboxing someone (supposedly) and having your way...why would you stop? Wouldn't you just continue to easily outbox him? Maybe something else was going on to make him get on his bike (hint, hint: consistent pressure from the other guy slowing him down).
oscar boxed titos ears off for 2 thirds of the fight and then he started to lose his legs. because he felt, like most people did, that he was way ahead on the cards, he decided to stay out of danger and just avoid geting caught in order to win. oscar would beat tito every time, imo.
Been a while but I don't think I scored 7 rounds for Tito. I think I had him winning 5 or 6 -- either round one or two, possibly one more round between 3-7, and I believe either 8 or 9 and definitely 10-12. A lot of close rounds and not the type of fight you're in a rush to watch again (I have a couple times though not recently). It was definitely a close fight. And when you run around the ring for rounds and rounds, you can't cry robbery. Again, the only people who were robbed were the fans.
I agree the fans were robbed. But blame that on Tito's lack of skill. Oscar outclassed him badly in his prime. He couldn't even hit Oscar when Oscar wasn't doing anything for 8 minutes.
I blame his lack of skill as much as I blame Oscar's lack of will. Either way, only the fans got robbed.
felt DLH won the fight pretty easy- Trinidad didnt do much but follow about the ring looking foolish. even his dad was getting pissed
DLH himself has admitted to fatigue leading him to concentrate on just circlling around Trinidad. He's been saying that for years now and I believe its even in his book.
For those that are insisting this fight was a blatant robbery, thats not how neutral observers around the world witnessed it. Take a look at the takes of the british broadcast team right after the fight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BznzB4U4ECc
