Looking back at the Golden Boy's career, sometimes I think it's forgotten that he was only KO'd once, and that was to a bodyshot. Of course, he DID quit in his last fight against Manny Pacquiao, mainly on the request of the doctor, but only after having taken 8 rounds of punishment. He took a LOT of flush shots and just kept going. Looking back at his opponents, he fought guys like Mayorga, Mosley, Vargas, Tito Trinidad, Ike Bazooka, fighters who knew how to hit hard. I also hear the golden boy was never knocked down in his 200+ amateur bouts. So how do you rate the golden chin?
I don't think anyone ever questioned his chin. Even those who can't stand him would probably admit (maybe say the only thing) he had was a great chin. haters would add that he was a quitter, but there you go
Funny, someone here posted a Ring Magazine cover from 1994 and on the top was a question: Does Oscar have a glass jaw? Just shows us how ridiculous we can be in our criticism of fighters of our time.
dudes chin was really strong but in his early days he was sent to the canvas by some real nobodies. The type of **** that if it happened to one of today's fighters everyone would say he's a glass jawed ******. I hate that. quick look on boxrec here are some of the names that sent Oscar to the canvas. Narciso Valenzuela http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=3610&cat=boxer Giorgio Campanella http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=6110&cat=boxer
He has a very good/excellent chin. Despite being knocked down by nobodies a few times early in his career.
It happens to the best of them though.Of the tens of thousands of punches that are thrown are boxers way during his career sooner or later you will get caught off gaurd.
I agree if you take Rickys monster punch from Manny and equate that with all the punishment Oscar took from Manny, it had to be 5-6 times that.
