He's not overrated he's rated accurately. Guy was on of the best fighters of his era and was great for the sport.
Oscar was clearly not meant for 160, as evident by his flab in that fight. I felt he lost to Sturm, as did most. And yes, he lost to Floyd. Floyd is one of the best of his era. Shane legitimately beat Oscar at 147. But at 154, that was Balco Shane Mosley. That was a close fight that many feel could have gone either way. No shame losing to Ike. At 160, losto to Hops. But again, 160 was not a weight for Oscar despite his size. Against Pac, he was too drained and inactive to do anything to keep Pac off him. That was pac the buzzsaw who is also an ATG now. Floyd is one of the best of his era. But best there will ever be? GTFO. And that was a close fight. You seem to conveniently leave off his many big wins. Floyd being called overrated has zilch to do with Oscar. And lets not act like Oscar didn't fight virtually EVERYONE of note in his era. I've been called a DLH hater my whole time here, so no love loss at all. But his resume sh!ts on Floyds in regards to who he actually fought. You did nothing more then look at records.
I like Tszyu but to even compare him to Oscar at this stage in his career is ridiculous, never mind saying he would beat him.Get a grip man
Take all the obvious nonsense opinions from the OP's post out, and its still a poor thread lol. A persons bias (or perhaps ignorance) never shines through clearer than when they count robberies that happened for a fighter, against them, while counting robberies that happened to a fighter, against them as well. Funny stuff. 'Lost to Mosley, TWICE!' Meanwhile for Ike 'Who won that fight? Many say Ike did'
If you're bringing up ODLH deserved to lose to Sturm, then atleast be consistent and say ODLH deserved to beat Mosley the 2nd time aswell. Because that fight was just as controversial as the Sturm fight in which many thought ODLH won. Aswell as the Trinidad fight another controversial fight that many thought ODLH won. Quartey was a close fight that ODLH won based on his late rally in the 12th round, I don't see how this fight is a black mark against ODLH ? if anything it heightens his resume for his brave effort in the 12th round. Losing a competitive fight to one of the best fighters of the last 30 years in Mayweather whilst being past your prime is a bad thing ? ODLH had the advantage over Pacquiao ? He drained himself to fight at Welterweight a weightclass he hadn't fought at in a decade and was shot by that point. What the hell as Australia got to do with anything ? ODLH was hyped because he was an Olympic gold medalist, and literally fought everyone and ducked no one and gave us many memorable fights.
I'm team "Ike won" myself and would never in a million years say that result denigrated ODLH, because, well, I actually respect Quartey. A close loss to him doesn't make you "overrated", especially when most people correctly regard you as being among the best in a stacked welter era (but can't recall seeing anybody call Oscar the very best of the bunch).
When I say Oscar's a weirdo You might think I'm alluding to his penchant for dressing up in women's clothing and imaginative use of kitchen utensils But I'm actually not It's his strange personality For example, why in god's name does he suddenly burst into a Scottish accent in this interview? There's no reason whatsoever for it This content is protected
I don't have much problem with the personality of Oscar the active fighter. He was an overachieving mamma's boy, harmless though. Oscar the promoter, on the other hand, is among the biggest weirdo carny barker shyster dorks ever to utter a cringe-inducing soundbyte. "In our primes Canelo would have given me a frightful beating! " What uncastrated man says that??
I don't know if boxers avoiding hard fights these days is a symptom of, or a cause of, people using a fighter's losses against them to this kind of extent. If Oscar had played it safe like, oh I dunno, Wilder, his win-loss ratio would be much higher. But he fought the best. We should be grateful for that, and take it into account when assessing him.
Yeah, I had no problem with him when he was fighting, in or out the ring. He was a fantastic fighter who fought almost everyone In five of his last seven fights he fought Manny Floyd B-Hop Shane Mayorga That's crazy But since he became a promoter he's just morphed into a weird guy
