I can see you attempting to shape the battlefield (that's what they call it now, right?) here so I'll just cut through it: Any reasonably youthful version of Oscar De La Hoya still hung over and wearing the fishnets and heels outta the hotel into the limo to the MGM with the hookers and a qp of Bolivian marching powder waiting for him to make it an early night and come back would decide at his whim what happens to the-best-so-far Tim Tzyu on that night. If he wanted to make Tim dance the hokey pokey and turn himself about for 12 rounds, that's what would happen. At any point after round 4 or so that Oscar decides Tim needs a nap, that's what would happen. At this point there is no comparison. Let's have Tim do some things and maybe he turns out to be the ****. Not today.
He is actually underrated. He had a better career than Canelo yet nobody talks about him as an ATG like Canelo.
Fought everyone and won some of them. Always a huge attraction, win or lose. I wish today's guys had that mentality.
How is Oscar over rated? Who (nut huggers excluded) has ever called ODH a top 10 all time fighter? Or even top 20? He fought a lot of PRIME top and Hall of Fame fighters and aside from the Pac fight (which was a completely shot ODH) and the Bhop fight (which he was winning until getting brutally stopped) he showed well and nearly won most of those fights and that includes a totally juiced Mosely which in both fights he arguably won (funny you don't mention that but mention the Sturm "loss") many believe he was robbed vs Trinidad. Mosely JCC Bhop Trinidad Pernell Gatti Mayweather Pacquiao Camacho ALL hall of famers. I can't stand ODH the person, but to say a guy with a resume like that is overrated when he came close to winning every one of those fights (Except Bhop and Pac...and I personally felt the Mayweather fight wasn't as close as some did)
The 'greatest shape of my life' guy held leads over Mosley (1st fight) and Trinidad and blew those leads by gassing out. Was level with Mayweather after about 6-7 rounds and gassed out and stopped throwing his jab because Mayweather, hardly a big puncher, kept popping him with counter right hands. Was easily outboxing Mosley in the second fight, but the 'greatest shape of my life' guy gassed again making it closer than it needed to be.
De la hoya was the top 3 PPV draw behind Tyson and Holyfield. That shows he was must watch television win or lose.
I forgot to add: the 'greatest shape of my life' guy was beating Sturm after 5 rounds and then gassed out earlier than usual and got beaten to a bloody pulp by a left jab from a B-level fighter. Then the 'greatest shape of my life' guy is fighting well against B-Hop and then gasses out before being hit with a left hook to the body which clearly didn't hurt that much given he pounded the canvass afterwards.
DLH beats Floyd prime for prime. Hell their fight shouldve been a draw when it did happen. This is considered an "unpopular take" and lots of "certain" fans make it this racial thing. Floyd is an ATG but he's just not as good as some make him out to be. DLH was the goods and he ducked nobody. And for the fans of "only certain levels of melanin" I have Crawford beating DLH and Floyd prime for prime. Crawford also beats Manny prime for prime. And Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, and Trinidad. The funniest thing is that these melanin-sensitive fans have spent so much time tying Crawford w Top Rank that theyve missed out on an ATG fighter who SONNED their DemiGod in Spence. He would've done the same to most WW in history, too.
He ducked Vernon Forrest, Jose Luis Lopez, and he chose PacMan even though he had promised Margarito the fight.
Nah you’re just wrong bro. He’s under rated if anything, fought hard all the way through too, didn’t need to be coddled to 30-0 before fighting a live body like most do nowadays….
De La Hoya only lost to elite level opponents and beat some elite level opponents too. De La Hoya was one of the best in his era and is rated accordingly.
