just noticing something about oscar's record,it's nothing significant but just that he has never fought a fighter with a losing record,i doubt there are many boxers who can say that

i think oscar is seriously underrated especially on this forum, just because he is the most successful boxer ever (business wise) he gets alot of flack when really he is doing a very good job of developing future talent and indeed bringing good fights to us now.

even after 92 he had a hell of alot of raw talent and the fact he fought and won a world title after only 12 fights is something unbelievable, fair enough the competition may not have been the best but still some achievement!

Good find. Most if not all past and present have fought many fighters with losing records and the best started with fighters with losing records. I believe if you are sure of yourself and your trainers are sure of your abilities, then why not go after fighters with winning records.

The Pacquiao fight is a slight to this part of his legacy, but I've always respected Oscar for fighting the best and taking challenges. Never fighting a guy with a losing record just adds to that part of his career.

He was the biggest star of the era and he used his marketability to fight just about everybody (though Forrest and Wright would disagree).

It's because he was on the fast track to a title as soon as he started boxing.

dont mean to sound like a tightass to you as you clearly are an oscar fan but chavez was nowhere near the chavez we new, whitaker was very much past his best, quartey and mosley and mayweather beat him, he had draw with tito, Vargas was definatelly damaged goods when he fought him(big-time back problems that meant he couldnt do the lateral movement that kept him in fights in his prime and heavily affected his fighting style, Mayorga wasn't exactly a hall of famer, and jesse james leija got knocked out everytime he fought an elite fighter:hi: still it's a good record?

Yes, it's still a very good record. Whitaker was past his best but was also P4P#1 when Oscar fought him, Hopkins was also high on the P4P lists when Oscar fought him, Mayweather was #1 P4P when Oscar fought him and Pacquiao is #1 P4P now as the fight with Oscar is already signed.

How many fighters fought three guys #1 P4P in their careers?

2 of them are naturally much smaller guys than him infact all of them are naturally smaller guys than him and all of them have a good case of claiming the victory, I didn't count the Bernard Hopkins fight in my previous rant because you can't really hold that one against him as it was inevitable:bbb

Oscar De La Hoya - remembered for fighting the very best, and losing to the very best:hi:
