    Welterweights. 15 rounds.
Basically where do you guys rate DLH? No question he outboxes Pipino...but can he do it for fifteen if necessary...Or does Cuevas' hammers start to wear him down?

15 rounds makes a big difference in this one. I could see anything in this fight. Oscar using his jab and outboxing him or Pipino stopping Oscar mid rounds.. I pick Cuevas probably because of him fighting more naturally at 147 and having a bigger punch at the weight.

I say Oscar knocks him out. Oscar had tremendous power at this weight and I think he would eventually catch him with the big left hook. I have Oscar ranked VERY high in my ATG at both LW and WW. I think as time goes on, we will really appreciate how special of a fight he really was.

I'd favor Oscar. His mix of boxing skills and power would be too much.

    Prime Cuevas in 6 rounds.

Once ODH comes inside and starts to mix it up, Cuevas would bounce him off the canvas.

Mismatch..... DLH tears apart Cuevas like the Dickens..... Their skills are in two different ballparks.... DLH by TKO over Cuevas....

7th round for DLH.... Cuevas too battered to continue....:deal:bbb

I agree with Mr. Bill. Cuevas is mostly a WBA myth.

Oscar would have his way with Cuevas in the early rounds out boxing him ... If he decides to please the Mexicano fans(like Chavez II) and slug it out with Cuevas he quickly finds out thats not a good idea and decides to box at a safe distance. But you did bring up a good question.. On how Oscar would be in rounds 12 to 15... ????? Actually could see Cuevas wearing him down, especially considering how heavy he might go down stairs when he figures he cant catch Oscar clean upstairs..

But more times than Not ODLh wins a clear decision... Even a mid to late rounds ko isnt out of the question for Oscar... But i think he plays it safe and takes a decision.

Oh by the way i rate Oscar very high... Higher than most here... I think ODLH is a top 30 atg and will stick to that in any debate... Pipino is an almost great ww, but one of the greatest punchers in history. Had a very good title reign but outside of that a very spotty career.

But that's not likely gonna happen. And even if it did, Oscar would still probably win.

Oscar was on another level. Pipino was powerful and aggressive, but in terms of technical skill, he's several classes below a DLH. Add that Oscar has great power himself, far better speed, and an iron jaw?

I cant envision Cuevas winning barring one huge shot on the button, and that is rare as hell against somebody like Oscar. Less than 1 in 10. He gets outboxed and likely stopped most every time.

Oscar will beat Pipino to the punch quite easily in the early goings...His speed mixed with his ranginess and skills are going to be hell for Cuevas.

What intrigues me about this bout is how Oscar will go about it tactically..I think he has the power to stop Pipino. Not knock him out but force a stoppage..especially in the era Oscar came up in.
But would he have the balls to use it?

Probably not..I see him employing a smart, defensive minded strategy like against Tito. But I think it will be a energy zapping, highly mobile approach that will make things very interesting later on.

Pipino wouldn't pressure Oscar in the same way as Tito did...It may not be any more effective at first but it would be different. Unorthodox shots, coming from underneath and over the top...round the side...even occasionally down the middle in a conventional matter!!
A lot of sneaky holding and hitting on the inside...low shots, forearms and his mexi-fro rubbing into Oscar's high cheekbones.

Over 15 isn't fair on Oscar...He never went it and he had stamina issues at the weight..Pipino showed in the rare occasion he had to go into the late rounds that his power hardly diminished as the fight wore on.

On paper I see why many would pick Oscar...but in a real fight, I honestly couldn't say how this goes down..Pipino ask questions of Hoya that I don't know if he has answer for when the **** gets real.
I don't question the heart of a guy like Oscar but as another poster on here said about him ( and I think whilst discussing this fight) he doesn't strike me as a guy willing to go out on his shield.

Either you get rid of Pipino early or its going to be a long night.

DLH would do well with his boxing skills, but Cuevas' bombs will slowly but surely wear Oscar down. After leading on points for a good part of the bout, the Golden Boy fights courageously but falls by late TKO, as Pipino's arsenal ultimately proves to be a bit too much for DLH to weather.

Funny you should ask! Well, if Ayala at 14 got the better of Cuevas in sparring, I would think it would be more of the same in an actual match, as Tony would be older, stronger and more experienced. As with the sparring session, the powerful, thickly-built Torito would most likely finish off Pipino mid-rounds, as a result of a brutal, unrelenting body assault.

I would normally take Oscar to almost shut out Pipino, but 15 rounds is a different animal.Pipino may have enough juice in that hook of his to coldcock Oscar for a 14th round Kayo loss, but chances are, Oscar would barely survive the championship rounds to win a tough MD decision.
