Years back I was watching Beethaeven Scotland vs Khalid Jones. Scotland fell into a coma in the ring. Although, Jones was winning the fight and landing a lot of clean punches but Scotland was fighting back and had some good moments too. It was very difficult to tell whether to stop the fight or not.

the ref asked him if he could continue and asked to see how many fingers he could see..I think he responded correctly to the fingers but when asked if he was okay I think that's when he stumbled on his feet and the ref called it. The shriek of pain freaked me out. that's when I knew he was in trouble.

I hope this doesn't haunt the ref, he had a good eye of noticing that the fighter was in trouble right after the fighter stumbled on his feet and CORRECTLY called off the match.

I wish that refs could be trained to do mini neorological assessments (its not that hard to do) to determine if the fighter is okay. I thought the 'how many fingers do you see' thing was a joke

the weird thing is they caught this thing early and they still couldn't prevent this.

You know watching the fight last night, I was telling my wife that between these two guys as a manager or promoter its is a huge risk to put these two in together based on their styles and what might be at stake here.
I was telling my wife during the fight that this is good boxing, this is what the sport is about taking risk and that no matter what the out come of the fight, that neither fighter should be effected by the outcome in other words who ever wins deserves it but the loser also should not be dropped in any ratings nor should he look for another line of work.
Then we had the stoppage and suddenly Diaz just collapsed on his stool it did not look good, though the fight it self as it was going IMO was great for boxing and good boxing, the out come just ****ed me up, I couldnt watch it after he laid down on the canvas I just knew from that moment this was not good.
my prayers are with Oscar and his family but also with Delvin Rodriguez and his family I am sure Delvin to is having a hard time dealing with this right now as well.
I hope that both men come out of this strong....
    Diaz fought like a Warrior!!!

Teddy Atlas was ahead of the calamity. He stated several times during the fight that he was wondering if Diaz was the same fighter after the beating he took from Golden Johnson. Rodriguez was rocking Diaz pretty good and I think we saw the accumulation of the hard-fought wars catching up last night. I hope the guy is okay, for this is only a sport and brutal one at that, but I don't like to see people get hurt and lose their livelihood.

It was horrible to watch. I turned off the TV immediately. You knew it was a brain injury based on the way it set in, and that's never a good thing.

I don't think anyone is to blame here. It was a one-sided fight but somewhat competitive, and certainly not at the point where you thought it had to be called to a halt.

Unfortunately, the way these things work is that a fighter frequently won't show any symptoms until the damage is done.
