Oscar in his prime would've beaten Floyd. The only thing that lost him their fight as it was, was Oscar's stamina, which has often been a factor in his later career. I agree with him fully, at least regarding the Mayweather at WW.

"Whitaker was so slick and to me, he felt like he was in a whole different class," De La Hoya said. "He was a southpaw and he had all these tricky moves and everything. But he didn't mind trading with you and Mayweather didn't want to do that."

That part I disagree on when it comes to Whitaker when he fought De La Hoya. Whitaker even said himself on the HBO sudio show the week after the fight "I didn't want to get into exchanges and not knowing where the punches were coming from"

And Whitaker doesn't need to convince me with his own words.

I fancied DLH to beat Floyd last time & Id fancy him again if they fought. To me the fight was about even anyway.

In their primes, DLH would be too much mainly thru the size difference, I still think PBF is better p4p but primes head to head I pick Oscr.

Also... Whitaker was better than Floyd both primes & p4p & of course defensively.

At times Whitaker did exchange with DLH though, and he worked him over quite a bit to the body and tried to rough him up thoughout.

How many times did Oscar find himself on the canvas? Once in the 3rd, once in the 7th, once in the 9th, once in the 11th. Whitaker tried to show him who's boss. Mayweather did none of the roughousing Whitaker did and was content to peck and potshot his way to a 'victory'.

Rough physical stuff is different from getting into punching exchanges.

Even so, I think Whitaker got into more punching exchanges with DLH than what Mayweather did.

I'm not trying to paint DLH-Whitaker like it was some war, far from it, it was a tactical affair, but there was more give and take in that fight than there was in the PBF-DLH fight.

I like De La Hoya-Whitaker. Not a war as you rightly said, but a very interesting tussle. Entertaining IMO.

Yeah it's not as bad as most people make out. Thought it was a much better fight than DLH-PBF, though that's not exactly saying much.
