Oscar Ibarra vs. Junichiro Sugita & Dante Jardon vs. Rene Gonzalez RBR

Is it just me, or was that a LOT of fun?

I certainly wouldn't mind a rematch, whatever the verdict.

Ibarra has his whole family crammed in the ring along with the Mexican media, referee and the ring card girls. He's liable to pass out!

 

The main event is actually Dante "Crazy" Jardon vs. Rene "Super Chirizo" Gonzalez for the WBC Youth super featherweight title.

Round 1

Jardon thrusts out a jab that leaves him shaking every time it misses as he circles rapidly. Gonzalez turns slowly while working his feet in brisk little movements toward him and tries to line him up for a right hand, but Jardon gets off a few stiff jabs and lunging right hands while circling. Hard hook by Gonzalez as Jardon languishes inside a moment too long. Jardon responds with a pair of hard hooks a moment later. Jardon is busier, menacing Gonzalez from mid-range and throwing in combination to the body. Gonzalez hooks high and has Jardon duck in on him. Whipping right to the body by Jardon. Gonzalez is landing less as the round progresses as Jardon starts moving his head.

Round 2

Gonzalez looks anxious and uninspired on his stool. He comes out predictably lukewarm, based on that body language. Jardon keeps poking inside with jabs and rights to the body while quickly dancing around him. Gonzalez tries to squat down a bit and let his hands fly at the nuisance with some power but Jardon slips almost everything coming his way while bashing Gonzalez in the face with a hard 1-2 repeatedly. Gonzalez finally starts moving his feet a bit and drifts to and then away from the ropes, with Jardon still targeting the head with his right hand but reaching a bit now. Gonzalez is trying to make it a mid-range fight in the middle of the ring and lands a nice right hand or two on the leaning Jardon.

Round 3

Jardon misses a right hand and Gonzalez hastily tries to decapitate him with a hook but misses as well. Jardon leapfrogs Gonzalez's punches by crouching and pouncing forth with an upward jab that Gonzalez can't figure out how to quell. Gonzalez decides discretion is the better part of valor for now and hangs back on the outside, forcing Jardon to lead rather than give him any more free countering opportunities. Jardon pressures cautiously, using his jab and just testing the waters with a tentative right hand that just pushes against Gonzalez's arms enough to get a sense of distance. Double jab by Jardon on the turn as he stymies Gonzalez yet further with his constant and somewhat awkward movement. Gonzalez misses a can-opener hook and slugs his way after Jardon, who keeps luring him along at just slow enough a pace to keep out of reach (but able to counter).

Round 4

Jardon jabs high and low while dipping to either side and keeping Gonzalez dizzy. The action gets clinchy as Gonzalez takes to trying to sweep his fists around behind Jardon's head as he swoops in for sneak attacks. Jardon lands several times to the body and thwarts Gonzalez's efforts to grab him. Gonzalez is now hammering down the pipe with straighter punches, setting up right hands with a trickle of jabs. Jardon hooks to the body and throws a mean uppercut on his way out. Gonzalez pushes against Jardon's chest with his forehead, giving no ground and staring him down at the bell.

 

Round 5

Gonzalez slaps with some missed hooks and then paws a light jab. Jardon keeps his upper half leaned away and his feet sliding in erratic circumference around Gonzalez. Jardon is landing heavy blows now, with Gonzalez just pushing his left shoulder up and trying to pick off with his right glove but getting pummeled. Jardon could be close to a stoppage if he presses for it. Jardon instead remains on the outside, moving and dropping bombs. Gonzalez puts his head down and flurries his way forward. Jardon counters until Gonzalez is right on top of him at which point it becomes a clinch that requires intervention by the arbitro.

 

Round 6

Jardon reaches with jabs and right hands in between various defensive maneuvers including turning sideways to back out, crouching, and just keeping his gloves turned thumb out to catch punches as he circles. Gonzalez tries to keep his feet squared with Jardon's and paws with his jab, trying to set up a big right hand. Jardon is willing to get touched by a few jabs to get in and get his shots off but avoids the right hands. Gonzalez is getting jabbed in the face frequently. Jardon parries a Gonzalez jab that wasn't even close to reaching him anyway, just for fun. Jardon slows down a bit near the end of the round and gets caught by a couple of Gonzalez rights that makes Gonzalez go a bit crazy trying to swarm him (but having to suppress the urge at the bell).

 

Round 7

Gonzalez is knocked into the ropes by some reaching 1-2s as Jardon leans forward into his attack. Gonzalez puts his arms out to mock Jardon as he takes punch after punch flush to the ribs and face. Jardon just keeps hitting him. Gonzalez abandons the bravado and starts trying to mount an offense but is unable to squash the rhythm and confidence built up by Jardon. Gonzalez hooks ineffectively and tries to wrap himself around Jardon and drag him to the ropes. Jardon keeps himself free and moving, getting shots off.

I honestly haven't found a round to even think about giving the Nicaraguan.

 

Round 8

Jardon jabs and slides left, then pops a lead right and slides left. Combo and slides left. Gonzalez hooks and is blocked...hooks and is blocked. Gonzalez misses every punch in the book getting thoroughly outboxed. Jardon starts mixing a short hook into his repertoire and lands it well.

 

Round 9

Jardon hooks away and backs Gonzalez up. Gonzalez avoids some punches by ducking and backing away with his shoulder pushed up in front of his chin. Jardon circles and stalks, nailing him every few seconds with a big power shot. Gonzalez sells out and bombards Jardon with straight punches but misses all.

 

Round 10

More of the same. Gonzalez aggressive but getting his face mangled. Jardon moving and working. Gonzalez flopping against him on the ropes. Jardon jabbing and leaning away. Gonzalez swings for the fences and strikes out over and over.

 

Jardon won by scores of 99-91 and 98-92 twice.
