This is definitely one of the more controversial fights in a long time. Not as bad as Garcia vs Salka but similar. That being said, this should do decent numbers, maybe 300k-400k buys which isn't bad. Cinco de Mayo, Canelo headlining. Of course the core Canelo fan base will **** all over this fight but the casuals could care less. What this fight DOES confirm for me is that Canelo will absolutely NOT be fighting GGG in Sept. No way. Period. The question now comes will the WBC strip Canelo? I'm leaning towards no but you never know. GGG's team will be looking real stupid if they keep going out saying "oh were gonna fight Canelo in Sept." After Canelo beats Khan, Canelos team could UNIFY against Saunders putting GGG on hold again. That leaves Golovkin with NO opponent for Sept, maybe Tureano Johnson or Andy Lee....wow. Forget trying to unify GGG it doesn't mean jack. You wont get the Canelo fight. Even if Canelo gets stripped and you get the WBC belt, Saunders will fight Canelo for the title not GGG. Just move up GGG.
This fight will do atleast 500K in buys possibly more. Canelo is now the cash king since PBF retired and Pac is done after his fight with Bradley.
Why are you so sure? Khans fight against Algieri had poor ratings. He couldn't even fill up Barclays. Khan will have PPV buys in UK but will those buys translate into HBO buys? How many Canelo fans will buy this fight? The outcry is pretty bad in the online boxing community.
If Canelo actually does get stripped, Saunders and GGG will probably face off in the UK. As for moving up, moving up to what? DeGale already being discussed as possible UK fight, outside of that with Froch retired and Ward officially at LHW theres literally nothing at 168. Nothing.
There's Abraham in Germany. Ramirez in MSG. Bute in Canada. Groves in UK. Badou Jack in USA. and Dirrell rematch. These are all better matches than anything 160 has to offer.
