LARIOS RETAINS TITLE VIA SPLIT DECISION VICTORY OVER AOH IN JAPAN

    PhilBoxing.com
    Fri, 17 Oct 2008

TOKYO -- Oscar Larios of Mexico picked himself off the canvas to outpoint Takahiro Aoh for a split points decision victory to defend the World Boxing Council featherweight title on Thursday.

Three American judges scored it 115-111 and 114-112 for the defending champion and 114-112 for the Japanese challenger.

Aoh fired a counter right hook and then connected a left to floor 31-year-old Larios in the fourth round, in which the Mexican also cut his right eyelid after an accidental butting.

Larios, who in the fifth was left staggering after another effective Aoh counter, changed tactics thereafter and fought cautiously using an array of effective left jabs.

He piled up points in the following rounds hitting right hooks and straights.

It was his second defense of the title, stretching his record to 64 wins, including 42 KOs, six defeats and one draw.

It was a first defeat for 24-year-old Aoh, ranked ninth by the WBC, who has now 16 wins, including eight KOs, one draw and one defeat. -AFP

The guy barely won the fight, he was awarded the decision and a lot of people including american web site claims that the japanesse fighter was robbed badly, Larios was down hard in that fight, Larios was a great wrrior and a great boxer but sadly is shot as hell have a trauma in his brain and need to retire soon. Forget the paper belt becuse this is a paper belt he didn't win that belt they awarded himthe belt by beating a few bums.

I thought he looked done against Linares..perhaps this fight is further proof of that.

it pisses me off that he holds that belt when there are maybe 10 other featherweights without any titles who would beat him easily

but this suck I was hoping for him to lose tonight so that Gamboa goes after chris john, but now it looks like it will be Gamboa vs. Larios for that strap.

he needs to get out of the game right now before he becomes the next boxing tragedy... the linares fight should've been a clear indicator that he cannot hang at that level anymore and in my mind he totally exemplifies the kind of guy that is too tough for his own good

he's always had tough fights though... its his ability to come back and not fold mentally that has made him who he is.
