Just wanted to have a discussion about Oscar Rivas, so I found some suitable title, maybe. I'm wondering what's going on with him. He's got a decent record to step up against the big guys. He's beaten Jennings by KO. He's got only one defeat against Dillian Whyte by decision where he dropped Whyte once. This fight happened more than a year ago 20/07/2019. Why doesn't he fight to stay busy, despite the corona situation? Are people scared of him? He could challenge Dubois, Joyce, Usyk, Parker, Chisora, H. Fury, Price, basically anyone, but nobody calls him out, nor does he call out some fighters. What's the matter?
I'm not really sure how good he is, he's a tough guy that hits pretty hard which is always dangerous. He'd be a good guy for someone like Hrgovic, Mahmodov or Majidov to make a statement win against.
If I was him I'd avoid those three, especially the M's. I think he had a detached retina issues, and he'd be better off cashing in against an Usyk or someone who isn't going to knock his head off. I think for him to position himself for a voluntary/high end stay busy fight ... or as a late replacement for a big fight might be the best way for him to go forward. The line to a belt is pretty crowed at the moment.
I inexplicably had hopes for him once. Every good short punch he threw had Whyte reeling, then he would go and wildly slap at his arms until Whyte was recovered. The mechanics are wrong. He's a nice win for anyone though. I could see him being put in with one of the surprisingly old prospects trying to springboard into contention. I wouldn't mind seeing him against Ortiz actually.
He's got no head movement and he's tiny for the division. He gets smoked by anyone who can actually box and punch unlike Dillian who does everything in straight lines and with the speed of a snail stuck in molasses.
Haha this. I haven't seen anything to suggest that he is a threat to the division. He may well be the new Carlos Takam.
Good power but doesnt throw He was losing to Jennings then ko'd him Was losing badly to whyte and then dropped him when he decided to fight Very bizarre rocky Juarez was the same way
He’s skilled and pretty powerful but his stamina’s atrocious. He’s only able to fight as his best in very short spurts during longer fights, unable to maintain any kind of consistent work rate. Think he’ll stay around the same level as Takam for his career.
He's a pretty dangerous ambush type fighter, but he's not hard to outbox and can't fight at a consistent workrate. Also has serious eye problems, which limit him massively of course since I doubt he can accurately gauge distance or see incoming shots that well. Very, very explosive though, and probably one of the hardest punchers in the division right now, a bit like Amir Mansour was a few years ago.
