Who is Rivas promoted by? They are doing a terrible job of keeping his name out there. I had honestly forgotten about him until I saw this thread.
What a historical clash... first two goats of the freshly amazingly & brilliantly created new division. What an excitement!
Rivas trying to break the record for most bridger weight title defenses. He already has longest reigning Bridger champion of all time and in a way.....he's undisputed
It's like the Boxing Gods are getting together this year and trying to sado-masochistically test the patience of the fans.... "You thought last week's matches were boring, check these out, they're absolutely torturous!"
I keep thinking Oscar Rivas is Brazilian for some weird reason. That's all I have to say about this matchup.
That's how all bogus divisions are "certified". A good fight or two happens and then fans buy it as being legitimate (look at 105), despite the fact they primarily siphon talent away from other classes. Bridgerweight is garbage, just like many of the other junior/super divisions.
I speculated about this a few months ago as a grander political scheme to "certify" the class and give Wilder an alphabet trinket while he waits for Fury, Usyk, Joshua, and Whyte to clear things up. Here is a hypothesis: Romanov stopped Wilder in the amateurs. If he beats Rivas, they can sell a fight between him and Wilder as a chance at redemption. Wilder probably returns the favor and wins via kayo. Now you have a "legitimate" titleholder.
