I've said this a million times. Don't blame Oscar you would do the exact same thing in his position. Blame the dumb fans that still pay to watch him even though he is pretty much meaningless and has been for years

I also was happy as hell to see Oscar get beat like that. And I have defended the guy relentlessly for ever. But he deserved what he got. But that doesn't change the fact that Boxing still needs these big events. And as long as the structure of the sport doesn't change, it might need these circus fights or meaningless cross-weightclass fights to get that.

I kinda agree about some people being mislead. I actually think Pac might beat Hatton actually. But Floyd would beat him quite easily I feel and actually stop him if he goes for the kill. I also know some casual fans who picked Pac to beat Oscar but laughed at the idea, even after the fight, about him beating Floyd. The general concensus of Floyd Mayweather is that he is "pretty damn good" :yep

I don't see that happening. Mayweather will have his hands full, but even if it did its part of the risk Pac knows he has to take. And when Mayweather comes back of course he wants to be ranked number one again but he has to take it back now. I'm sure Ring Magazine is not just gonna hand it to him cuz he got his boxing lisence renewed.

I opted to just watch the reply, but one of my friends went to a party, and some people left because of all the one sided fights, another friend at school said some people were not going to watch boxing after that fight, I enjoyed it cause I wanted Many to win. They put alot of hype into the fight, and it was a big let down to the casual fan.

that's another great point....by oscar losing, boxing is dead in a lot of those "casual fans" eyes..

i had about 25 people at my house, and only 2 of us were happy, now times that by THE WORLD and see the numbers you come up with....the rest were ****en pissed and talked so much **** about the sport that i found myself sounding like a boxing nuthugger , which i am, but i didnt wanna be argueing after i had a ear to ear smile on my face.....

One thing I am still trying to understand is why promoters don't hype the **** out of fights like Vasquez vs Marquez, I watched the third fight at a friends house, they didn't even show that one at the one sports bar that usually gets all the fights.

The smaller guys always play second fiddle. If we didn't have such a shitty heavyweight class, I doubt if there would've been as much attention to the lower weights than it's getting now. The Vasquez-Marquez fights deserved a much bigger audience.

I see your points, but is losing to a guy who is playing the "no, I mean it, I'm really retired" game, a service to boxing...???

Oscar and Floyd was a big fight because Floyd is good, and Oscar is famous, other than that...boxing gained little from it.

...and doing wonders by losing to Pac...???...only if Oscar is gone for good. He can **** up boxing with just one fight announcement, because anybody will fight him...he'll put the breaks on whatever division he wants to fight at...and the breaks on whatever division he lures his opponent from.

how about this though, if Oscar hadnt have made any of these mega fights starting with floydd vs oscar a year and a half ago, boxing would probably be inferior to UFC now. I agreed to a certain extent with your post, but i dont agree that hes ruined boxing. its fantastic and is a fantastic feeling leading up to a mega fight night, the build up and the atmosphere is amazing.

No. Boxing has trouble because of the likes of Oscar, he didn't help the status of the sport in relation to UFC.

He is the problem, and all fighters who aspire to be like him with their politicing.

He is no real champion, UFC demands there fighters be real champions...even if their reign only lasts one fight.

In boxing the powerful fighters choose every opponent.

I agree with this. And it was one of the reasons why I was against it. Manny like PBF will only fight if they can get mega paydays 15 mil + and it's bad for boxing. You're right we'll never see Manny back at 135 with all the great fights that could be made there. Diaz, Campbell, JMM or Guzman he'll most likely fight Hatton for 20 mil and not look back.

Why is it but when Oscar had his last few losses it seemed that he throws the fights .
Hopkins to Mayweather (not throwing jab) Pacman Not throwing a punch in the last rounds )

I think he is the great promoter . Sets people up for future fights .

Its too hard to say when the man gets the peice of every pie made.
