That would be a completely different fight with Oscar possibly controlling the tempo and saving himself, taking breaks without getting tagged as much, imposing his left hook against Cotto's, his snappy, stiff left jabb against Cotto's, superior experience and classy footwork, ring generalship. I see the fight going the distance and no three judges sane in their minds would give it to Cotto.

This would of been an action packed fight for sure. De la Hoya hand speed would of been faster and his jab probably a bit better, but Cotto did stand and bang with Mosley, so it probably wouldn't of made that much of a difference. I think De La Hoya would of stopped him in the late rounds though.

Those are comical exaggerations, and we're not comparing Cotto and Oscar prime for prime at 154; we're comparing a much faded De La Hoya to a younger, fresher, sharper, and at this stage a more versatile Cotto.

People are overrating that version of Oscar. His speed and fluidity had diminished significantly by that stage. Cotto at this stage has improved footwork and that in combination with his left jab could possibly lead to a close points win at this stage.

That being said this fantasy matchup means nothing. Because De La Hoya isn't Floyd Mayweather.

Oscar's uppercut left hook would have connected more than cotto's liver shot and one of them would put cotto out, for some odd reason people think the Oscar that Floyd faught was a bum he was still world class and a champ that just knocked out vargas in his previous fight he was no less a part time fighter than floyd is now, I dont see how people see this Cotto beating THAT OSCAR

I find this funny that whenever someone speaks on the Mayweather-De La Hoya fight they always revert back to the token.....

"Dominating! Boxing clinic! Wow! These are all adjectives to describe the performance of Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on Cinco de Mayo vs, the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya. What stands out in my mind is the compubox statistics. For they tell the tale of the fight better than any writer or observer could ever tell. 43% of Mayweather's punches connected compared to only 21% of De La Hoya's and the power punch numbers clearly define what really happened in this fight. Mayweather landed a staggering 57% of his power punches against the bigger and stronger De La Hoya. A feat that is impossible to accomplish by running! De La Hoya due to Mayweather's superb defense was only able to land a mere 24% of his power shots.

De La Hoya got all that he asked for plus more. He got the smaller ring size, the Reyes gloves, the venue he chose, his company promoting the fight and a much samller man to tee off on. In fact, if what Mayweather said was true, he in fact only weighed 148lbs. on fight night. So De La Hoya was in fact in there with a legitimate welterweight. So what happened?"

    Agreed.

I had Mayweather-De La Hoya 9 rounds to 3 for Mayweather. Oscar had some success early due partially to his jab, and partially due to Mayweather's tentativeness (Floyd actually looked nervous to me early). But for the most part..Oscar was pretty ineffective on the offensive end. His punches lacked explosiveness and a lot of his shots were being picked off. He also was gassed after five rounds and fighting in small bursts. It's amazing to me that some people actually had this fight being "close." Even more amazing that some seem to be under the impression that this version of Oscar was anything more than a spent fighter.

    What??!!!

Foreman's leg gave out, he was wearing a leg brace FFS....Yes Cotto was winning, but he was fighting an injured man.

Margarito had severe eye problems...He was fighting with one eye.

Mayorga was well past his prime and still gave Cotto a hell of a fight...ODLH just prior to fighting Mayweather completely dominated, and destroyed Mayorga in just 6 rounds...!!!!

The DLH that fought Mayweather was faded but still had faster hands, a better chin, better ring IQ, better jab, more power, height and reach advantage, better combinations...

Improved Cotto??? How do you figure? Based off the Margarito fight??? Lol...Margarito is there to be hit, and still the ref had to stop the fight as Margarito started coming on.

DLH would destroy Margarito even faster and better than Mosley.

Cotto will never be on Oscar's level not even a faded Oscar who had just KO Mayorga and lost a SD to Mayweather....Only way I see Cotto beating Mayweather is if Mayweather got old overnight...

This thread still on the first page, if anybody saying Cotto would beat Oscar, don't know **** about boxing......................

And that version of Oscar even though he may have been a part time fighter, he was far from shot, and stiil had a hell of a Jab, an ATG chin, and the speed to make a prime Mayweather reluctant to be aggressive
