when u mention all the heavy hitters he faced: chavez, quartey, tito, pacquiao, mayorga, hopkins, vargas, mosley and never hurt, only flash knocdows vs quartey. pretty good chin
Flash KD's early in his career, never really been hurt or wobbled by a head shot. Took monster shots from Gatti, Mayorga, Vargas, Mosley, Quartey, Chavez, and some shots from Trinidad, Hopkins, Castillejo.
Yeah, Oscar's chin is often underrated. I guess he just seems like he should be weak chinned...kinda like Malignaggi.
People seem to forget this due to his pretty boy looks. Hell even dehydrated and washed up he took all Pac had to offer and never went down.
No. Iron chin but he was a smart warrior, willing to put it on the line against some hard hitters but not against the absolute hardest like Trinidad for instance. If you look at the Quartey fight (I believe he said Ike was the hardest puncher he ever faced) he was hit hard in the sixth and that affected how he had been performing until that point. He seemed wary of going back to the fight plan that had won him most of the first 5 rounds. Hes perhaps the most deceptively toughest fighter of all time? Certainly not a top ten chin though.
I could see sneaking him into the top 10. It's overlooked because of everything else he was so good at.
definitely top 10 of the era and top 20 of all time the most underrated chin ever, i always laugh when i see people say pacquiao or chavez (common statements on this forum) would stop him prime for prime
I agree Oscar's chin is underrated. He took a helluva shot from Mayorga and took it well. He also was able to take some hard flush shots from Vargas and Tito, shots that would of dropped most fighters. Even in skeletal form, he was still able to take some hard Pacquiao shots.
The question was not if a solid chin was his most notable attribute, but simply if he had a chin. One worthy of top 10 status.
It's overlooked because you wouldn't think that such a good looking mug would also have a granite chin.
