What the detractors try and give reason for is the Tito desy=truction not too shortly thereafter.. The coke really came into play before the tito fight.... And going into the Oscar fight Pete was very close to form if not 100%.
I thought Oscar drew with Whitaker, but only because of the WBC's accidental foul rule. Otherwise I would've had Whitaker winning. I thought Oscar lost to Quartey. Felix Sturm too. Though, I thought he won his second fight with Mosley.
Yea..Pea was the mann..But he lost his focus and that was it... The Oscar fight really had him depressed from what family told me...It was just the nail in the coffin after the Chavez fight he felt deeply unappreciated...
Hmmm I thought I was the only one that considered Quartey the winner and as far as the second Mosley fight Oscar won that I don't know what the judges saw. I'll watch the Strum fight at midnight if it's on youtube.
I'm from Pea's area, and grew up with some of his nephews... Needless to say we talk alot of **** about his fights...lol.
Oscar didn't get his ass kicked. That was a close fight too. The reason it's remembered as so one sided is because Oscar's body punches are not counted in that fight and almost all of Oscar's shots in that fight are body punches. So its a choice, Oscar's body combos or Sturm's jab. Head shots are always the shots people look at and so its said he won but watch it again with an eye for body work.
Pernell looked faded against Hurtado in his previous fight but turned back the clock against Oscar and still lost my card 115-112 ODLH. He looked like the same Pernell that fought Buddy Mcgirt to me. Same outcome had he fought (supposedly prime Pernell) and this was ODLH first fight at Welter.
Quartey fight was also a big win remember that Ike was considered a beast of a welter and on every ones PFP list at the time:yep
