He didnt phone it in like he did against Hurtado and Rivera..He was pumped up for this one and in about as good shape as you could ask him at that time but you can not doubt that his reflexes and overall speed had diminished somewhat since his first fights at 147.

Anarci....truly it's too hard for us too say...He looked good... but he probably wasn't the Pea who faced Chavez or McGirt...

Agreed. Oscar didn't get to Pernell that much in the fight but Pernell didn't get to Oscar either, and in the end Oscar landed the more meaningful punches. Pernell clowned the whole fight but did fuk all. Oscar took the fight to him and all Pernell could do was dodge, try to dodge, and dance around like a moron.

as someone may've already said, this fight said more about Pea then it did De la Hoya IMHO. there will never be another Sweet Pea Whitaker he was the sweet science personified, it was like watching a CGI edit...its a shame his achievements don't match his skills though because of his flirtations with ruby...lol especially compared to the one person who could argue to be a greater lightweight in Duran.

    Bull****.

It was a close fight and Whitaker gave it away with his clowning!

In my opinion Pernell played to damn much to win that fight. Did he make Oscar look bad yea he did but he didnt beat Oscar. No doubt who the winner was in this one for me, I had ODLH winning 115-112.

I had no big complaints about the decision to give it to DLH, it was a close fight, very subjective and coulda gone either way (i had it a draw) plus we've gotta bear in mind that DLH was the up and coming golden goose, certainly wasn't a robbery on the scale of DLH vs Sturm or Ike. The point is though that this fight really showcased the greatness of Pea with all things consided, oh and some call it "clowning" i call it boxing and ring generalship, obsurd how one could call making DLH miss "clowning"...it was genius the way Pernell took away Oscars left hook, maybe yall need to watch the fight without that pathetic HBO commentary in which they seem to have a collective orgasm everytime De La Hoya flurried without even landing (particularly Lampley).

Why would Pernell have gotten a decision? For dancing, for clowning around? Cause he didn't land anything of significance the whole fight and was in defense mode throughout. That doesn't warrant:patsch a decision
