Funny, why was pernell's eye swollen half shut? Oscar did miss a lot, but he landed the more effective punches.
What really pisses me off about this fight is people saying Pernell was "shot". Keep in mind that Whitaker was the P4P #3 the previous year, and the #1 ranked WW in the world. His performance against a strong, young, hungry and talented fighter like DLH was good, yet somehow people still suggest he was "shot". Past his absolute best, yes. Shot, not even close. As for the fight itself. It was very close. I scored it to DLH by a point, but if Whitaker hadn't clowned around so much, he probably would have won.
I dont get how alot of people sit back watch the tape and argue robbery, that De La Hoya stole the fight cus he was the up comming fighter. What I tend to point out is that as a judge back then and even today you can not look back at the tape and rescore it, what costed Whiatker this fight IMO was too much playing around, and sure most of the shots missed by a razor thin margin some of those shots that Whitaker made miss, looked like they actually were scoring if anything DLH won on higher work rate and being the aggressor. No way a robbery sure a close fight if you watch it more than once, however if you stuck with your original score when the fight was broadcasted live, you should have Oscar ahead 7-4 and 1 even some **** like that, close fight but again Whitaker gave it away more than anything.
No he didnt Bra typically a Floyd fan will say some **** like that, and in reality Floyd also lost to DLH
Pernell got jobbed in this fight like he did against JCC! This fight was not even close everyone should go back and watch this fight without Oscar coloured glasses on!
PBF beat oscar just as bad as Pernell . . . except it was the Golden Boy so automatically go into the fight 3-4 rounds down. two fights that Oscar should have won on the cards where Tito and SSM2. I originally gave that fight to SSM but looking back Oscar should have won or a draw at best.
I agree that PBF edged out Oscar in a close fight. But those 2 fights were different and the difference was Floyd was actually landed clean punches and countering Oscar successfully towards the end of the fight when Oscar was slowing down. The only similarity was Pea and PBF made Oscar miss a lot, but the fact of the matter is Pea had zero offense during his fight with oscar and PBF actually had a bit and enough to win fair and square
Ahaha what a clown! Does he think defense scores points or something? We on the ESB General Forum know better than that, right boys? This thread has put up some hilarious comments: - Pea was as good as he had ever been at welterweight - Pea was close to 100% - DLH outworked Whitaker - Dodging 10 punch combinations is defined as 'clowning' Keep it up guys this is some quality stuff :good
Maybe it "touched" him but it didn't land that clean. Last time I scored it I had it for Sweet Pea, but it was close so depending on how you score it maybe you can give the edge to Oscar.
