Oscar Valdez is a name that most boxing fans do not recognize. As a 17 year old he qualified for the Olympics with only 3 international matches. In 2008 he won the AIBA Youth World Championship for his division. In the semifinals he knocked out his opponent in the first round and followed that up with a 12-0 shutout in the final match.

Although his style is more suited for professional boxing and he has received countless offers from both American and European promoters he refused them as he plans on winning a Gold Medal in 2012.

In his fights so far he has demonstrated that he has solid technique, great power, speed, and the rare ability to adapt to varying styles rather quickly.

Already beaten by Cuban Yankiel León at the Olympic qualifier. Let's see if they meet again.

Will he still compete in bantamweight in 2012 you think? He'll have tough competition in Badar-Uugan and Yankiel Leon at 54 and if he goes to 57 he'll face Lomachenko. Looks tough.
