They polled ringsiders and a clear majority had Mosley winning, mostly because they said he landed the harder, cleaner shots. This fight has one of the weirdest disconnects I've seen between television watchers and ringsiders. I blame HBO's commentary team to a degree. I think they exaggerated De La Hoya's effectiveness early and ran with it. I haven't seen the fight in a very long time, but I recall the first round being a good example. De La Hoya was certainly more assertive in his posture, but didn't land nearly as much as they said he did. Meanwhile, Mosley was out-thrown, but undoubtedly had the most telling punch of the round, swaying DLH like a tree trunk in a gust of wind via a hard left hook. The decision should have been overturned from the PED scandal alone, but boxing is boxing.
ODLH won that fight. One would need to be extremely bias to score it otherwise. ODLH was also screwed against Tito.
The fight was an absolute travesty and the micro cosmos on why boxing is corrupt & inept to the core. Not only Oscar closely by CLEARLY beat Mosley, a 8-4 type situation having at LEAST 7 clear rounds but rather 8. Mosley later admitted in court that he personally injected "clean" and "clear" substances from the US' biggest PED supplier, Victor Conte, yet the result is still unchanged, no investigation in corrupt judging or whether to make the result at least a no contest or DQ win for Oscar. But the case also contributed to double standards. PEDs push you harder to inflict more dangerous damage on your opponent, and it never sat good with me that ppl. gave Shane a free pass and made him the good guy wanting to beat up Margarito when some of the wraps under the fully padded gloves mind you turned out wet with traces of unhardened plaster of paris. What Margarito's trainer did was clearly wrong, illegal and dangerous and Margarito is responsible for his teams actions. But he sure as hell didn't personally and consciously inject PEDs into his own body and he's the horrible guy and Shane the saint and I know some of you are now triggered, but you are in the wrong here: you just excuse one fighter and rightfully blame an other.
