Oscar looked pretty good at 154 lbs against Mayorga.....his left hook was very deadly. Would he have been able to get inside on Hearns and deliver the punch to the Hitman's chin?
I think Hearns wins a UD, or maybe by stoppage (especially at 154 when DLH was easier to tag). DLH had a solid skill set and sturdy chin, but I can't see him winning this, other than a scenario where he hurts Tommy with a left hook and then finishes him after that. Leonard had a vicious left hook and was an ATG finisher, and it took him a long time to get Tommy outta there. DLH admitted that he was inactive for much of the Quartey fight because he was nervous about his punching power. What happens when DLH tastes Hearns's straight right? Hearns was extremely difficult to beat from the outside and I see him controlling much of the fight at range behind his jab and straight right, along with some left hooks to the body mixing in.
If Duran could get sparked, I see Hoya definitely getting sparked. He wouldn't have the heart to come forward and take what Hearns had to dish out nor the brains to figure out its his only chance for success, as boxing with Hearns was utter suicide. Hoya is also square and presents no false line of attack, Hearns would have a perfect target to lock on to. I see Hearns ending this in 4.
Oscar may have been tough enough to survive, over the distance, the Hitman's best shots, but Hearns would take a clear decision.
Floyd Sr. throws in the towel after Oscar gets dropped twice (especially if this is the 33-year old version that fought Mayorga)
I think Oscar would last longer than Duran, but not much more. Hearns was a killing machine at 154. It's a matter of when, not if, that right hand turned the Golden Boy's face into swiss cheese.
Using a guy like Mayorga isn't much of a reference point because the top notch fighters have a whole different set of tools. And does anyone think Mayorga beats Tommy?
The oscar that ruled lmw before stepping up to 160 would have the best chance. Hearns is a beast at 154 and it's difficult to pick against him. But if barkley could find the chin it's not impossible for oscar to find it. Still you'd have favour the hitman.
You can bet the house on Hearns here, Oscar won't get past the jab and if Mosley outbrawls him Hearns may KO him, there's just no scanario that favours Oscar, Hearns was just a monster at this weight
I consider Oscar a legit ATG. But he was not a great junior middle and Hearns is one of the greatest, in my book. Hearns puts Oscar on the defensive and if he doesn't lose on the cards back pedaling, he gets stopped. Welterweight versions would be more competitive, I think. But Hearns takes it the same there too.
