How Does Oscar De La Hoya Fit In With The Top Welterweights At The 147lb Limit(if He Can Even Make 147) Id Say He Beats Williams, Cotto, Margarito, Berto, Judah, Clottey. I Still Fill Shane Mosley Whoops On Him...what Do You Think?
I think you need to take into consideration that this isn't the Oscar De La Hoya of 10 years ago. The version today is far removed from his prime, evident in his fight with Mayweather Jr, where he was having stamina issues down the stretch, and his speed had detoriated. I think Antonio Margarito sets two fast of a pace for Del La Hoya to cope with for 12 rounds, and he would be outworked and lose a lopsided decision. Hoya has a deadly left hook, but Margarito has nothing to prove in terms of his punch resistance. Shane Mosley is also a fighter removed from his prime, but he is more active than Oscar, and showed a lot of ability in his loss to Cotto. I think Mosley wins a decision, I still think it would be tight though. Miguel Cotto has a change of stopping Del La Hoya if he lands enough to the body. At this point, I feel Miguel holds an advantage in speed, and is at lot fresher than Hoya. Having said that, if Hoya lands a flush left hook, this has the potential to change the tide of the fight. Williams would badly outbox Hoya, keeping him on the outside with his long jab. Hoya would bully his way inside like he did to Mayweather, but he landed very little against Mayweather, whereas Williams is 6'2 and has one of the longest reaches in Boxing. Having said that, Williams is open to right hands, but I feel Williams setting a furious pace would prove to much for past his prime Hoya in a 12 round fight.
I RESPECT THAT...I JUSS THINK OSCAR CAN OUTBOX THESE GUYS OR KO GUYS LIKE BERTO AND JUDAH..IM NOT A BIG OSCAR FAN..I THINK HES STUPID FOR FIGHTIN A LIGHTWEIGHT IN PACQUIO...BUT I LIKE HIS SKILLS...HE IS SMART AND HE THINKS...
Id go with Mosley because its clear he has Oscars number theres a reason they have fought 3 times including the amateurs and Shane has beat him all 3 times. After that id go with Oscar clearly over Cotto,Berto,Judah would get killed,Clottey,Williams. Margaritos a tough fight he might have to much down the stretch. Oscars still a great fighter until he loses that jab and the combination ability I aint calling him shot especially when he lost by just a couple points vs Floyd a year ago.
And has only had one fight since then - a less impressive points victory over Stevie Forbes, who is less than world class. I find it interesting you think Oscar would clearly beat Cotto. The only way I see him winning that fight is by knockout. Cotto is a master boxer, but can also pressure the opponent. I think he would fight like he did against Mosley, where he would be beating the older and slower Del La Hoya to the punch. Also, given that Cotto can utilize his body attack, this would be evident in the bout. Del La Hoya was out of there with a body shot against Hopkins. I think Cotto is a better body puncher than Bernard, and despite the Margarito fight, still has a lot of power at 147b. I would be stretched to make Del La Hoya the favourite going into a fight with Miguel Cotto. I think Del La Hoya stops both Berto and Judah. Berto is still green, and shouldn't even consider stepping that high up in class so soon. He should be persuring a fight with either Cintron or Collazo. Hoya would be to much to soon for Berto, who has already been on the canvas having not felt a shot as powerful as Hoya's left. Judah is a great four round fighter, but then he goes to sleep and is reluctant to let his hands go. This was evident in his fight with Cotto, and perhaps even more notable against Floyd Mayweather. I expect Judah to win the opening rounds, and then start to get tagged by right hands until he is either knocked out or the referee stops the fight.
I pick DLH to KO Cotto I just feel like if DLH can work his jab he will open up Cotto a bit and land his trademark left hooks. Cotto has a decent chin at best and that wont be enough to handle DLHs left hooks and DLH is a GREAT finisher just like Margarito is and Cotto may have some problems there. DLH isnt Judah,Mosley,Torres,Corley guys who can buzz Cotto and have no clue how to finish a fight.
You said that almost as if Cotto would be a stationary target, not throwing any counter right hands. De La Hoya has the power to stop Cotto, but Miguel is a smart fighter and knows this so he wouldn't be pressuring Hoya. He would be on the backfoot, waiting for Hoya to come to him. Cotto has the advantage in handspeed at this point in their respective careers, so I feel he would most likely counter effectively. Once it gets late in the fight, Hoya will be very tired as he can no longer do the 12 round distance with quality opposition easily anymore. Cotto would sense this, and perhaps instigate the exchanges more, where with his handspeed would get his shots off quicker. Like I said, I can see Hoya knocking Cotto out if he lands the right punch, but I would never favour him to do so. Miguel Cotto has the legs, the handspeed, and the experiance to outbox Hoya at this point in his career.
