"We are going to sit down and see if we can put the fight together with Pacquiao," Schaefer said. "Oscar is not going to fight Margarito. I think Margarito has a lot of other fights and a lot of other challenges he should take care of."

"I read some of the stories after Saturday's fight and suddenly everybody is saying that he (Margarito) is the man at 147," Schaefer said. "And I think that is very disrespectful of Paul Williams. I think Margarito should go and avenge his defeat to Paul Williams and then he would be the No. 1 guy in the division."

"It's kind of strange for a fighter who won a big fight to want to fight Oscar when he has a chance to avenge a loss to a fighter who beat him," Gomez said.

Marylyn Aceves, a publicist working for Williams' promoter, Dan Goossen, said Friday that Goossen has made an offer to Margarito to take on Williams in a rematch.

"We didn't consider Margarito because we think Margarito has one big win now, against Cotto," Schaefer said. "I heard it was a great performance. But just because you win one big fight, that doesn't mean all of a sudden he is going to become the opponent in Oscar's next fight.

"Pacquiao has steamrolled over all the opponents over the past few years, except for maybe one, Juan Manuel Marquez (against whom Pacquiao is 1-0-1). Look what Pacquiao's done to Marco Antonio Barrera, to Erik Morales, to David Diaz. We just think it's a different level. I don't want to take anything away from Margarito. But one is a star and the other one is a superstar.

"If you have an opportunity to put two superstars together like De La Hoya and Pacquiao, it would not be prudent to not pursue it."

"If anybody is going to say Oscar is going to avoid anybody, they should just get lost," Schaefer said. "Those are just the Oscar haters. If people don't want to watch this fight, who cares? Don't watch it. If Oscar goes and fights King Kong, they are still going to talk (expletive)."

"I heard it was a great performance"...Shouldn't a CEO of one of the biggest boxing promotional companies of the world be watching Cotto-Margarito?

Yeah, only an Oscar hater would object to him fighting a guy who started his career at 106 lbs.

Pac steamrolled MAB and EM.......because they are 1/2 the size of all of Margaritos opponents!!! This is no longer a P4P discussion Schaefer! This is who would be a tougher "real life" challenge for Oscar. And I would take the guy who just raped Miguel Cotto over the guy who got pasted by the 130lb JMM 2 fights ago to be the bigger threat! Is he ****ing serious!?

I want to know what sort of readers they have in mind when they spew this **** - anyone even vaguely interested in boxing knows its laughable, and those who dont wont even read it.

Oscar, fight someone your own size. Better still, retire: real fans have long since lost interest in the annual meaningless money-spinners.

In the board room at Golden boy they must all be thinking it

"come on guys who are we kidding"......i actually feel embrassment on their behalf for trying to sell the Hoya Pacfest.

Even the most obscenely *******ed *******s agree that there is just no way Pacquiao is big enough for this to be a fair fight.

Margarito wanting to fight Oscar is all about money the same way Oscar wanting to fight Pac is all about money.

You know he watched it but he's such a stuffed collar cocksucker that he will pretend as though it was unimportant seeing Margarito won.

These goldenboys have been afraid of Margarito for years. And it looks like they will run right into retirement feasting on tiny men to try and look competitive. They already know what happens when a big determined hungry opponent is across the ring from Oscar. He gets a gift decision or loses handily. He isn't what he was made out to be. Never was.

True, but I'm looking at this from the perspective of GBP making it out to be a lesser fight. They are looking to get Manny because Manny will be too small to bang with Oscar. They obviously know fighting Margarito might end up bad, so they will not go that route. They don't have the balls to face a real challenge. GBP is nothing but a circus act.

I don't disagree with you. I'm saying that by asking to fight OScar instead of Williams, Margarito is basically playing the same game GBP are.

Why fight Williams, a more meaningful but also more risky fight for less money than he can make fighting a less meaningful but more winnable fight against a bigger name in ODLH.

Oscar is using the same train of thought but with the pathetic factor magnified by 10. Replace William's name with Margarito, and ODLH with Pacquiao

Only problem is that Margarito didn't ignore Williams for years. He actually fought him. DLH, like Mosley, like Mayweather, like others, ignored Margarito for years. And it looks like they will all retire with that on their conscious as well.

De La Hoya isn't even a welterweight ... why isn't Margarito focusing on redeeming himself against Williams and seperating himself from the other welterweights in the division?

Oscar's not going to fight him w/o anything to offer back ... Margarito is a welterweight titlist, but he's not a linear champ, he's not the best p4p, undefeated, or marketable ... Margarito might be deserving but he doesn't meet the criteria to get a fight with DLH.

If he had beat Paul Williams and Cotto then i'm sure he could make that arguement.
