I browsed through the latest copy of Oscar’s ring magazine last night and turned right to an article that insinuates John McCain being paid off by The MGM Grand to steer away from any plans that he may have towards cleaning up boxing corruption. This article and others like Vivic Wallace’s latest one on defending promoters smelled of rat so I did a little investigating. Its obvious that Oscar tried to shoot to birds with one shot with this article. First of all his new partnership with Anschutz Entertainment Group (or AEG) now makes Golden Boy Productions immediate competition to The MGM Grand. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-boxing9-2008may09,0,1366909.story

Anschutz Entertainment Group (or AEG) the world’s largest investor in sports arenas; the world’s largest presenter of live sports and entertainment events; world’s largest owner of sports teams and sports events; owner of the world’s most profitable sports and entertainment venues; world’s largest developer of sports and entertainment sponsorship and naming rights. The company makes a significant amount of its money by leveraging its sports interests, already significant earners, by using the stadiums in which these teams play to host various other entertainment events, most notably concerts. Indeed, Philip Anschutz created the company by buying up several small local promoters in Los Angeles in order to fill up the schedule for his new sports venue, STAPLES Center. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anschutz_Entertainment_Group

In fact, AEG has just acquired significant ownership of Golden Boy Promotions. http://www.hotboxingnews.com/NEWS2008/news050808goldenboy.htm

Secondly, he obviously doesn’t like John McCain by insinuating he was bought off. I also found it interesting that GBP and HBO allowed Charlie Wrangel and Jim Lampley to compare presidential candidate Obama to those of the great Joe Louis during much of the Klitchko/ Ibragimov undercard further conveying that neither promoter wants Mccain for president.

Do GBP and HBO fear Mccain and are thus going out of their way to promote and slander or are they telling the truth? I have contacted Mccain a few times after watching some maddening robberies but he I have yet to receive a response of any kind. Other politicians do respond though so who knows maybe he has been paid off. On the other hand this Anschutz guy also seems like a very good guy so I think I might just complain to him next time:rofl

Bottom line is that promoters are known to payoff judges, referees, announcers, lawyers, trainers, opponents, managers, commissioners, commissions, casinos, the media, politicians etc... to make sure that their investments are secure and it is obvious to me that Oscar, Don King, and Bruce Greenburg (HBO sports president) are no different. Here is just three minutes of research on what I mean.

Does Vivic Wallace and other promotional defenders really believe that all of Oscars and Don’s multi-contracts with foreign fighters are a through a manager?:patsch Do they think that the likes of Shelly Finkel, Jim Lampley, Manny Stuart, Freddie Roach, Jeff Mayweather, Jose Sulaiman, Larry Hazzard etc…. are never paid off by these mega promoters? When a manger does dare cross a promoter the fighter often is dropped and usually just after suffering a mysterious decision. Hmmm, It’s obvious that even the boxing forums are also heavily influenced by promoters. Then these writers get their cronies to respond “your right” just like a talk-show-host's paid audience.

Nate Camble’s recent article is my cup of tea when it comes to the truth about promoters..

Wow I just watched Speed Racer and found it to be very interestingly ironic. The evil promoter Mr. Royalton is all about fixing races and buying people off and he kinda of looks like Richard Schaefer.

I will say it again though that this Anschutz guy seems like the type thats for a fighters best interest and will hopefully get GBP etc.. in line.
