    Best I could come up with using Twitter's 'explore' function without an account, from Rafael within the last couple hours;

    Every time a ref pulls a fighter out who clearly has no chance of winning, reference stuff like this. I know we all love to see some big underdog get a chance to go all 12 while they endure repeated blows to the head in hopes of the 1% chance they’ll land a one shot Hail Mary. If a corner isn’t gonna protect a guy who is helplessly behind the ref has to be aware enough to say “there’s no way this man can still win this fight” and protect him from himself.

    :shakehead: Absolutely terrible news. I feared this might happen as he took way too much punishment and I could just tell by his body language he was not in a good way and I mean long before the end I could see he was fighting so hard just to hang in there as long as he did. Fingers crossed he's going to pull through

    Fkn A. I don't have the qualifications to be a ref but have watched tens of thousands of fights live and on TV and I could see this coming. The dude didn't have a chance of scoring the KO necessary to win. His snap was gone, his leverage sucked. It wasn't going to happen. Are refs and corners really this oblivious or callous?

    Guys like this self-righteous phony get on my nerves. All this coming on like they're not watching men try to defeat one anothers' wills by punching each other as hard as they can in the head and pretending they're watching a game instead of gladiating. "I just don't understand why this keeps happening in the sport." Oh yeah? Repeated blunt force trauma is a mystery to you? GTFOH.

    You know he's not sincere by the pompous "look inward" and "prevent this from happening in the future" jazz, when anyone who's been watching professional boxing for as long as he has knows that you cannot do it, even with all the best will in the world, without significantly altering what professional boxing is and taking it away from its essence.

    Incidents like this one will happen for as long as there are still men brave and tough enough to perservere through an asskicking. Sometimes the point at which a fight could reasonably be stopped will be missed because the referee and cornerman are purely callous or incompetent. Sometimes it'll be because a corner isn't authoritarive enough to pull a fighter who demands to soldier on, and/or because a referee was too deferent to a fighter's courage. And other times it'll be because there was no unequivocal point.

    It's all a risk, and there will always be error where humans are involved, always be ambiguous junctures in fights that lead to judgement calls that are regrettable with the benefit of hindsight. So take your pick, the sometimes tragic spectacle that we all love to watch, or some neutered athletic event officiated as circumspectly as a junior division amateur bout.

    If there was a lack of medical precaution at ringside, that's another matter, and it should be addressed. But he knows that addressing it cannot altogether prevent tragic outcomes in boxing, only help to reduce them.

    Then the glib "Prayers up to Aidos" tacked on the end like an afterthought. Jerk.

    Not a shot at you, @Serge, and I'm not saying the fight couldn't or shouldn't have been stopped (I said he was taking too much in the RBR after the 10th). Azzholes like this button-clicking buzzard, who get their kicks watching dudes beat the **** out of each other then use events like this as platforms to signal their virtue and faux-rage about the monstrous inhumanity of parties involved, annoy the hell out of me is all.

    I get what you're saying. The sport has an inherent risk. I've got my jaw dislocated, lost teeth, have f'd sinuses and nose, got concussed and still have other after effects from participating. I've met many a guy, some famous/more not, with profound after effects of participating. That's part of the agreement upon entering.

    All that said, I could see this one coming a mile away. And I'm all for given a guy a chance to land the homerun punch but it was patently obvious that Yerbo didn't have that capacity after about round 6. At some point a couple rounds later he was just a punching bag who had the muscle memory to land some arm punches. He had no route to victory. I've been in and seen too many fights in my life to be convinced otherwise.

    Dude should have been pulled.

    Yeah, post wasn't to say otherwise. And there's obviously some oversight or neglect going on when an official is more concerned about deducting a point from a guy who lost most every round rather than looking at the reason for the death grip. Just a broadside at pretentious ***gots like the one in that tweet.
