Is your stance that Ibragimov was difficult to hit last night because he was a southpaw? Because he wasn't. He was easy to beat and was there to be hit. Klitscho, even when in position to counter, didn't do so. He clinched or simply refused to use his right hand. This is the criticism be leveled against him from reasonable posters, not all who are Wlad haters.

All this about the history of HW's vs Top 10 Southpaws isn't relevant to what actually happened in the ring last night. Seems rather specific to begin with IMO, and southpaw HW's are no different than southpaws in any other weight classes, and I have seen orthodox fighters destroy them before (Kostya Tszyu comes to mind).

Reveiw my psots..i have been saying the same thing my man.....weight class has no bearing on the point....bottom line..iggy was their to be beaten..badly..perhaps Wlad would have been hit a few more time...perhaps not....but he would not "pull the trigger"..he was gunshy, and, thus, put on a lackluster perfomance that disappointed not so much for waht it was, bit for what is should have been.

Wlad was not a champion when he defeated Byrd either time either.

Beating a Southpaw can be tricky, but I don't see the relevance in the discussion of past HW's who beat southpaws or even Wlad's past performances against southpaws. His performance last night has it's own context, and it's clear that Ibragimov was there for the taking, and that it wasn't his defensive posture that caused problems. If that was the case, Wlad wouldn't have been able to catch him so often with the right hand when he DID decide to throw it towards the end of the fight. He was always open for it....so why didn't he throw it. The reason he didn't throw it is what is causing the criticism. (From reasonable posters, some are here just to bash Wlad)

I saw them :) I actually made a long post in the middle of this thread, which got no response. So I decided again to repost.

I think Mendoza makes some valid points. I don't see what they have to do with the fight last night though. Past fights had no bearing on this fight, and I don't see anyone questioning Wlad's past performances against Southpaws. If anything, I think his destruction of Byrd works against him in this argument. He was able to pull the trigger on an even better defensive southpaw and take him out, but last night was reluctant to do so. And this is where the criticism is.

Here is what this discussion is akin to : thread title "Water freezes" 1st post: Last night water came in to the ring last night agaisnt temprature..when temprature hit 32f, water froze' 1st response: ' You hater...water did not freeze, he was conserving energy because he was caught cold in another similair fight..didnt you see what happened it the last fight when water fought temprature 212f...he boiled him."..it is fruitless...Wlad is not bad..but...looked very bad last night...his performance was one to forget, and......question. This doesnt make me a hater...just stating facts

2nd fight was for IBF belt and also IBO (who cares)..2nd was for bogus WBO so was going to be champion...it was championship fight. Am I correct? All in all..it doesnt matter...weight calls and whether it is or is not a championship fight is not relevant...Wlad should have and more importantlly should have performed better last night.

Well his thread was about ATG's against ranked southpaws at HW. Wlad is not an ATG. This was pointed out and in context, he started and others started talking about champions vs ranked southpaws. Wlad was not the champion in either of those fights. The first time he was fighting for a vacant belt. The second time Byrd was champion.

Title is " Other alltime great heavyweights versus ranked southpaws"..first off...it implies that you need to be a champion (ATG's are mostly all champions), but does not state it emphatically, second, the Byrd fights adheres to the titles question, because Byrd was a champ, and, regardless, was ranked/ Also, by saying "other' the writer is implying that Wlad is an all time great. Third...that is the problem...only the most avid Wlad supporters would label him an all time great at this point. i am to tired to detail why he is not yet.

I gather what you're saying, but it seems to be a bit of semantics in play in the wording of the thread.

I see we are not going to be engaged in the conversation regarding why the weight class and championship are relevant to validate the authors point. i will assume because, and only because, this is the most difficult situation to emulate, thus aiding in the support of his argument. That is why the criteria laid out is so stringent.

No doubt brutha......no doubt. In a funny observation, i would assume (tell me if I am wrong) that Wlad landed more "slapping" Lefts on Iggys oddly outstreched Right hand than on any scoring part of Iggys body. My wife said "Is he, pretending he is a cat pawing the red toy glove???"...very accurate observation from an third party. Performance was very very dissapointing.

Vlad took care of Byrd two times and both were easy, one decision and one TKO.

What would your all time list look like. There are two ways to look at all time. Acomplishemnts within an era, or head to head. Can you give us yours?

What was your prevsious question? Yes, I know Wlad was not champion when he brutaly Ko'd Kock. I was just pointing this out to another poster that Wlad has fought at least 4 south paws.

I still say Southpaws can make a fight ugly. Feet tangle up, hooks don't work as well, and its awkard in general, much like a lefty pitcher facing a righty batter, the angles and curves of the action are reversed. Mix in a guy who's not being agressive enough to over come Wlad's jab, and you get this type of fight.
