all you had to do is watch the first 2 tarver and the johnson fights to see how weight drained roy was. no legs, couldn't move and no stamina. yes he was 35 and on the decline but the weight played a major part. all tarver had to do in the first fight was move his hands and he would have beat jones. he got outworked by an exhausted, weak fighter. i always felt that if jones would have fought johnson right after ruiz, he would have lost. jones couldn't have dealt with a pressure fighter that night. tarver sat there and let jones in the fight.
Oscar De La Hoya claimed that bad oysters upset his stomach in his loss to Shane Mosley. And I think Allan Green has a shopping list full of excuses ready and waiting for Jim Grey.
Then no one should take your scoring of fights seriously ever again if you scored it to Tarver on a round by round basis. Jones was gassed after 5 rounds and the commentators said he looked old, weak and done. He just lost the weight all wrong, there is the right way to make weight and the wrong way, he should have just dehydrated 18lbs of water weight and rehydrated - he'd be unaffected, he didn't know how to do that though
Duran needed a poo. Duran didnt train. Duran deserved a mention but didnt get one. Duran ate chipotles
I recall Chris Eubank looking bad in one of his victories, can't remember who it was against. He blamed his performance on not getting his barber to the fight ! :huh
all of Duran's excuses when he lost to greats. Somehow he didn't train when he fought great fighters, but decided to train with the lesser fighters.
I remember Sylvester Mittee in a post-fight interview waffling about his biorhythms not being right or the stars not being aligned and assorted bollocks :bbb
Tyson did destroy Ettienne in 49 seconds, but this is always funny... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rw47gXsDwjw[/ame] :rofl
Joe Louis vs. Jimmy Conn. When asked why he lost the first 12 rounds Louis said he knew Conn was a little guy and he didn't want people to think he was picking on him so he lost weight enough to weigh in below 200 lbs (199 1/2) and consequently was dehydrated during the fight.
sometimes it is hard to know if they are excuses, yet to be honest having an upset stomach during a fight if it is legit could alter the fight outcome.
Pacquiao is the worst excuse maker I have ever seen. I had to give blood bepoor da pight I didn't get to use my cleto reyes gloves my socks weren't my good socks my legs were stiff i had blisters all over my feet Larry Holmes notorious - "My arm got stuck in the ropes" Tyson's excuse was legit as far as I'm concerned. He was getting headbutted but his ass deserved it as he was always throwing elbows. The issue is that he was losing the dirty war on the inside and he was getting pissed off. The illegal headbutting was legit, but Tyson has no room to talk because at that point in his career he wasn't a clean fighter. Even when he fought Spinks in 88 he was throwing blatant elbows in the clinch. David Haye's excuse on Saturday was very shameful as well.
