Do Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby count ? They were shadowboxing in the ring during the preliminaries  What an event,eh..? It seems that the whole celeb and sporting world were there that night !! The likes of that event will never be seen again. I feel priveleged to remember it.

In Dempsey's bio by his daughter Barbara he tells of the event and being initially forgotten but then tells how a few nights later he flattened two punks who tried to rob the cab he was in coming home from the restaurant ... he was 75 when he did it ...

reznick-I first met Ray Robinson in 1939,before he turned pro..I as a boy along with others shook his hand at a Golden Glove event. He was a second for Salem-Crescent B.C. Robinson before he even turned pro was a celebrity,so highly thought of then...And I next shook his hand in 1968,at the Concord Hotel in Sullivan County..He was retired by then...In between I saw the GREAT Robinson Fight Henry Armstrong,Jimmy McDaniels, Bobby Dykes, and the last time, Sept. 12,1951 against Randy Turpin,at the old Polo Grounds..Still have the ticket stub...Robinson was simply the greatest fighter I ever saw,at his peak,m followed by Willie Pep, who I saw before his plane crash...Pep if he could have hit with more power, would be superior to Robinson P4P...Welcome to ESB...

Unbelievable Burt, that is just amazing

You witnessed a Robinson fight where there is no footage for? That is remarkable. You are one lucky person!
