There is only one other fight I can remember that hair was a factor in the fight. I remember this because it was the first big fight I ever watched. In David Tua's challenge to Lennox Lewis Tua had to continually life his hair out of his eyes. Does anyone else remember anything else even remotely close to this. Finally, out of all the distractions boxing can bring a person, I would never ever allow hair to be an excuse. Paulie could have easily lost that fight because of his hair. That's one of the most unacceptable things I've ever seen in a ring. EDIT: In no way am I suggesting Tua's hair was the deciding factor in the fight, I just remember him having to brush it out of his eyes about 1000 times.
I still remember Riddick Bowe's splitting boxing trunks tho...lol and a couple of split glove fiasco's in my days that stopped some important fights in crucial times & who can forget "Fan Man" but yeah Paulie's hair is now a Classic moment in Bonehead boxing history.
Hey what are you talking about? Paulys fans in SAN FRANCISCO are raving about Paul. Hes an idol over there. Hes like the symbol for every metrosexual out there. I bet he would fudge pack....I mean pack a stadium in FRISCO any day.
Nigel Benn v Mike Watson.. Nigel spent all day on the day of his toughest test of his life sat in a barbers cahir getting a mallignaggi special and it cost him his unbeaten record.. I do like both Benn and Mallignaggi but vanity has its price .. Lennox Lewis v Ray Mercer reminded me of the Mallignagi fight last night , it was too close for comfort and Lennox had to have his braids taped up that night too... Shannon Briggs v Lewis also, I remember they both said if one beat the other they would trade off their braids in a kind of sidebet.. Neither did but Lewis made a meal of Briggs for some of the fight..
The most shocking boxing-hair-story for me was when Joe Frazier pulled the hood off his robe and sported a freshly shaved head. The hairdo didn't help then either.
That fight , Lennox realised that he was just approaching his end, and did what he had to to get out of jail free with his pride and title in tact.. He never did box again.. The hair was rubbed, he laced occasionally, and took far too many risks to get Vitali out so he could gracefully retire.. I applaud him for that..........
During the yuri foreman fight on the undercard of Cotto-Judah, his opponent's hair had to be tied and then taped up during the fight.
Small guys, Luis Perez I think vs. Kirilov, on Showtimes undercard to Jose Rivera's fight against A. Garcia for the 154 belt. They had to cut Perez's hair in the corner between rounds because it kept getting in his face.
