Agreed, Chavez was at the tail end of his best years and starting to fade some at one weight class too high....I felt Whittaker won but I also remember the damage Chavez was doing with his punches to the hip flexors to slow Whittaker's movement down it worked a little but not enough

Well I certainly don't put much into sparring as a measure of a real match too many different variables to look at it isn't ever what it looks like

Chavez started in 1980 as a bantamweight. Sweat Pea started in 84 as a full fledged lightweight. There was a difference in career trajectory.

Tony Tubbs once floored Ali in sparring during training for Spinks 2, or around that time.

I can completely see Steward's story .. I used to see Camacho spar at Gleason's prior to the Rosario fight and he really was a punky street kid .. I saw him start **** with a young fighter sparring in the ring next to him in front of everyone .. the kid, an amateur maybe 16 or so got so pissed he took a swing at Camacho and it was broken up and Ira Becker threatened to throw Camacho out of the gym ..

I didn't see anything comfortable about that draw.

Its rumoured Oleg Maskaev knocked Vitali spark out sometime in the early 90's.

I had Whitaker by a round. A draw seemed within plausibility. I thought Whitaker won his rounds more emphatically but 10-9 is only 10-9 until you KD a guy or at least beat from ringpost to ringpost.

I had watched JCC since before Mario Martinez. He had lost a step or two... or three.

We usually agree, but I can't get behind Chavez only losing by a round.. a round? lol. I'm thinking my friend, who has a penchant for sarcasm, is just messing about....

I remembered a few years ago someone had quoted Pepper Roach saying James Toney toyed with Vitali Klitschko in a sparring session
