They all do. Boxing is very versatile, you need all aspects of physical fitness. Some people think strength is the most important, that's why you see a lot of people lift weights four times a week. I personally think that's counterproductive.

why do you think lifting weights is counter productive?

my friend who is a sprinter, does weighted squats and box jumps as well as sprint related coached sessions (obviously) and he has improve his track best and as far as hes concerened hes only going to keep on improving.

i say this as if the weighted squats and box jumps are as a result helping his anaerobic speed, isnt it at all possible but bench presses and clap press ups could be used to help in aiding anaerobic hand speed when conbined with coached boxing sessions?

before you replie, notice how im refering to speed and not power ;)

    to get back on topic,

i heard calzaghi makes his boxers finish boxing sessions with a game of soccer every once in a while, maybe to help foot work and ballance i dont know?

in my opinion, sports that require you to do alot of running aswell as quick burts of sprinting along with sports that require good reflexes and balance could contribute to aiding boxing, which is one of the reasons why Enzo Calzaghi might have is boxers play soccer every once in a while.?

Lifting weights 4 times a week, perhaps? :think

Just like I think running marathons is counterproductive for boxing, but for some reason people take that a lot less personal.

theres no doubt about it that running marathons is counter productive when in heinsight boxing matches at most only last 12 x 3 minutes.

so running for 2 hours straight wont do you alot of favours interms of boxing "cross training".

although i cant see how weight training is counter productive, even if done 4 times a week, if done correctly it can have huge benefits.

If you do it 4 times a week it's not "done correctly" unless your goal is being a weight lifter.

so its not possible to do compound weight training 4 times a week ( i .e monday chest-bench press, tuesday back-deadlifts and weighted chins, thursday legs-squats and saturday doing something like abs, neck, traps and maybe trieceps and biceps) and not be a boxer. . . ARE YOU REAL??

When will you be doing actual boxing workouts? You know, punching, stuff like that? :think

Ps. compound workouts, and still isolating triceps biceps, abs and neck? :huh
