Other than Evander Holyfield who do you rate as number 1 Cruiserweight all time?

People forget just how good JC Gomez was for a while.

In some ways he reminds me of a pretty Rosario hector Camacho. A lightning fast mobile assassin. Its a shame that he dithered his talent away as a fat, jab and grab heavyweight.

Can you imagine if things lined up different and we saw him against toney, Jirov, JMM, USS, Braithewaite, and Carl Thompson? He could arguably rival the Holy One.

A lot of that stems from a belief that he could have been a lot more than he was, especially at heavyweight.

That would be ridiculous way to rate fighters.

Probably. But as above it would be a silly way to rate fighters.

I don't rated Holyfield as the #1 CW, hell not even top 5... In terms of accomplishments/his time at the weight class being too short. Holyfield's place in history will be as a HW, not a CW. It's not a stab at him, it's just a fact. h2h is a different story.

    Are you serious?

Holyfield is the clear number 1 at Cruiserweight. He beat Qawi for his first title, unified all the belts against Parkey and De Leon, and defend by knocking out Ocasio, Tillman and Qawi in a rematch. Nobody has been anywhere near as dominant at Cruiserweight.

    I don't think there's a clear number-two.

Haye unified three of the four titles and beat names like Jean Marc Mormeck, Enzo Maccarinelli, Giacobbe Fragomeni, Arthur Williams and Alexander Gurov.

If Haye would've faced the IBF Cruiserweight champ - Tomasz Adamek - and won, he'd arguably have a claim to the top spot at cruiserweight over Holyfield. (After all, Holyfield opponents like Ocasio and Parkey weren't world-beaters, either.)

That's why I wasn't sure whether to put Haye or Adamek at number two. If they would've fought at cruiserweight, it could've been a classic and would've probably given one of them legit claim to at least the number-two spot.

Yes, Haye lost to Carl Thompson. Haye was pretty young at the time. DeLeon, on the other hand, also lost a lot at the weight to some pretty mediocre characters.

Juan Carlos Gomez held the title for quite a while, but never tried to unify and defended against a lot of weak fighters, too.

Qawi won the title against Crous and made one successful defense. He lost more cruiserweight world title fights than he won.

I don't want to go too negative on them. Qawi was a dangerous fighter for anyone.

It's tough to pick. Haye, Adamek, Gomez, DeLeon ... they all have their faults.

Congratulations ... after most of you were dead, we created a new division that you never competed in but were all the best at.

    Great job!

    :lol::patsch:roll::nut

If they create a super heavyweight division in 50 years for fighters over 300 pounds, I want those of you who are still alive to rank Valuev #1.
    :thumbsup

Adamek didn't become IBF champ until Dec 2008 when he beat Cunningham, bu which point Haye had already started fighting at Heavyweight.

Do you not mean if he beat Cunningham in that case.

Haye had fought at heavyweight before, against Bonin. He fought Barrett just a couple weeks before Adamek won the title.

If Haye and Adamek fought for all the belts, I think the winner would be the clear #2. Adamek had already been the light heavyweight champ. And Adamek and Haye's styles would've put on a great show.

Cunningham never seemed to catch on with fans as a cruiserweight early on. They replayed both of his fights with Wlodarczyk on a loop here on some cable station and they weren't really exciting.

Today, Steve's win over Huck looks huge (since Huck became a strong champ in his own right), but at the time it was just another win.

In hindsight, a victory by Haye over Cunningham at cruiserweight would've been seen as a big feather in his cap.

At the time, though, a win over Adamek (because of Adamek's track record at light heavy -- and his exciting win over Cunningham at cruiser) would've made Haye-Adamek at that weight something special.

If that makes sense. Adamek was a thrilling fighter at light heavy and cruiserweight, Cunningham wasn't seen as a thrilling fighter until he lost to Adamek.

All I meant to say was that Haye-Adamek for all the marbles at Cruiserweight would've been something to see and that guy winner could've competed with Evander for the top spot.
