Froch is an excellent fighter at 168 but he is very beatable. I'd pick quite a few fighters over him H2H at 168.

Kessler was an excellent win by Ward, although he got away with alot in that fight.

The thing is with Ward he's an excellent fighter and looking back the super 6 was set up for him, not once was he out of his comfort zone and he's done literally nothing since winning the tournament and it's a shame.

 

Right. Badou Jack has a better SMW record than Ward, a razor Close win over a guy who got demolished by Froch is a bigger accomplishment than anything Ward has done to date.

If Ward gets beat by Kovalev where do you think he go's after that? Where are his next big challenges?

 

there are still guys like beterbiev and Stevenson hanging around...and as lil g fans like to point "guys always emerge"....maybe work himself back up for a kovalev "rematch" should he lose? I would think avenging his lone career loss would be a good challenge

Of course Calzaghe and Ottke should be higher rated than Ward at SMW. There are other SMWs that would be also.
In fairness to Ward he wasnt a SMW title holder for as long as Calzaghe, but with Ottke, they were SMW champs for a similar amount of time and Ottke has a greater resume.

Ward never fought a top undefeated SMW or top prime SMW, but did beat some fair comp.
I dont rate Jacks resume above Wards and would favour Ward had they fought

What I do find amusing with fans is hype, but thats another debate

 

Green young ward, in his first 40 minutes of his title career (ie first title fight) eclipsed cowardzaghes best win that joe had NEEDED 11 YEARS as wbo champ to achieve.

and the less we talk about multi-loss ottke the better.

 

Ward has had a lot of success can't take that away from him. My only gripe with him is his inactivity since the super 6. He could of really had an ATG career but he really has taken it easy. This fight with Kovalev will be huge for both fighters.
