    Good answer thank you. I also remember that Sauerland/Ottke didn't think that much of Joe due to him being champion in the lowly WBO.

    I think you the nail in the head by saying that both made plenty of cash fighting lesser opposition in their homecountry. Of course Calzaghe stepped up somewhat belatedly.


    Yeah I used countless saturday nights falling asleep while hoping Ottke got KTFO. :(

    Absolutely.

    Ottke, but as mentioned by another poster Lacy would have followed regardless. Would have loved to see Ottke slapped to oblivion.

    Ottke and Beyer would have been very good names if Calzaghe had them on his resume, but neither (understandably) wanted to fight him, and Calzaghe can take comfort in that he did a more impressive job every single time on common opponents

    I understand people saying the victories he had are better than victories he could have had. But from a practical point of view, say he unifies by 2003, steps up to lhw in 04, he has some big marquee fights available to him.

    I don't think he should have stepped up before unifying the division, but it could have been unified sooner in this scenario.
