Undefeated longtime former super middleweight champion Sven Ottke confirmed on Monday that his comeback bout against Dariusz Michalczewski is on for May 24th in Hannover, Germany. A press conference is scheduled for tomorrow to officially announce the bout, which will be billed as "It's Never Too Late." Ottke has stepped in for Graciano Rocchigiani, who was originally slated to face Michalczewski, but could not reach final terms. Promoter Jakub Andreas Grajewski has not yet finalized a TV deal for the fight, which is estimated to attract ten million viewers. :dead :dead :dead
Do the Germans not realise that the upturn in boxing's fortunes has strangely coincided with the aforementioned boxers retiring? Ottke stifled the SMW division with a lack of ambition and the DM/RJJ scenario was an absolute farce. This is such a meaningless, disappointing fight.
Yes and it's even more dissapointing because it is/will be a huge fight in Germany. Millions and millions will be made:-( Just like Maske vs Hill and Schulz vs Minto.
ottke will win this fight in boring fashion, but easy on the scorecards IMO . d/m is totally shot and cannot hit a heavy bag at this moment, let alone a light footed 6 or 7 punch and round ottke who will get in and out while D/M is still telling his brain to throw a punch. .
Is DM really is so shot?:-( I doubt u would exaggerate as I remember u being a fan and follower of DM until his decline at 34-35ish. I hoped he might stand a chance because Ottke doesnt deserve to be undefeated.
i am and always was a huge fan of darius. sadly he is now totally/totally gone. in the last few years he was a punching bag for the first four rounds barley able to get in gear, then he would warm up and turn on the heat. sadly now d/m is a punching bag full stop, and he is unable to let his hands go at all. ottke will win on points, even possibly late stoppage. its not as if d/m had a very sudden decline , i could see it coming for years , gradually getting more sluggish until v gonzales it finally happened and v the frenchman whose name just will not come to me for a sec, it was as palin as day that everything has now sadly gone and d/m is now shot and has nothing left in the tank.
Yeah but as u said in the past..its amazing he lasted as long as he did with his style. The Tiozzo fight was sad to watch. But as u say the signs of wear and tear were there vs Richard Hall among others.
I remember very well that DM was in very good shape against Tiozzo, sporting a nice six pack and he was totally owned, which proves that there is absolutly nothing he can do, even if he has the best training camp and comes in shape he cant win, he is completely shot.
Nightmare scenario: If Ottke defeats DM, as many suggest he will, does he become a big-money option for Joe Calzaghe post-Hopkins? The thought of that makes me sick, even if I would love to see Ottke lose. ...
