No way is this a 50/50 fight. Maidana is the perfect style for Khan to cat paw, reset and pepper. Marcos has no punch variety, poor footwork, doesn't set anything up and is a sucker for a conventional 1-2. Oh and did I mention his whiskers ain't too solid either, add all that up and the fact the Amir is more mature and able to follow a gameplan...with all the advantages he has then this a whitewash IMO. All those picking Maidana are going for the "what if" argument of i told so and not looking at the intangibles and X's and O's.
Khans horrible chin means all of those advantages could be null and void in a split second. That's a real possibility, unless you think Maidana will not land a single punch in the whole fight. If that were the case, it would be an impressive showing of Khans focus IMO. I would then consider him ready for the 'big boys', although I consider Bradley the more formidable of him and Devon at this stage, by a fair bit as well.
Maidana has a real chance in this fight, it'd be silly to discount that with the vulnerabilities against lesser fighters shown. I haven't see Maidana-Corley yet but reading about that fight has obviously given a further swing in Khans favour when looking at the Khan-Maidana fight. It is going to have to be a pretty perfect performance from Khan to get the dominant win. He won't want to find out if his chin can handle Maidana's power so hes got to good lateral movement and keep out of range before coming in quickly behind his greatly improved jab and firing off combinations. Its possible Khan could take him out early, Maidana has looked shown himself to be vunerable in the first couple rounds as well and Khan might just decide to really try and take him out early if the opportunity arises, saves the risk of him getting caught in the later rounds. Plenty of possibilities in how it could end up, thats why its a great fight.
I think Khan will come out firing early and COULD take Maidana out. maidana has shown he still has one-punch power even when buzzed early, you would think of course than Khan would overwhelm him intelligently with speedy bursts rather than walking in a straight line and allowing Maidana to line his right hand up like Ortiz did Let's not forget that Maidana can whack to the body too. Khan is much more well conditioned than when he fought Gonez, but he was hurt to the body there and to be honest, I doubt his overall toughness. His body may well just kick back a him, regardless of how much he wants to be able to take the shots and carry on. What I'm saying is, aesthetically, Khan doesn't appear 'built tough'. Just a hunch but Khan within 1-3, Maidana between 4-6.
Bar the Kotelnik fight, Khan has gotten sloppy in fights. Khan is not Floyd, his defence is very much improved but come on, a fighter as aggressive as Madaina will have his moments and then we'll see what Khan is made off. The comments I'm hearing sound so very similar to the views and comments pre Presscott. Truth is, he's hasn't fought anyone dangerous since. Yes Kotelnik is good, very good but Khan basically RAN the last two rounds. No way Khan Ko's the Argentine early. To win, he will have to stay disiplined and box the entire 12. Wouldn't surprise me to see Khan on his bike again. I predict a Madaina KO or a very wide points victory for Amir.
Well, if Khan can't beat Maidana and treat him like Lennox treated Tua with all his advantages then he doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as "Desert storm" Bradley, let alone share the same ring. Maidana is the type of fighter who gets confused when you put a jab in his face. I can't look at possible "Hail mary punches" all i have is the X's and O's of styles and attributes and it all points to a Khan win. And like i said anyone spitting this nonsense of a Maidana demolition job is going for the low risk/high reward rainbow of "what if", because anything can happen...
Anyone notice that the Argentine commentators' scorecard read as a draw. Could Corley have won that one if fought in USA..?
