That wouldn't surprise me one bit. Nobody was meant to get hit flush from Tua for 12 rounds with no ill effects.

To me he was absolutely nothing special. He was big and muscular. His only good win was against Tua.

He had terrible defence, and anyone who had some HW boxing skills would have at least outpointed him.

Fighting a cruiserweight in Chris Byrd did nothing for me.

He was clumsy to watch as well. His only assets was his incredible physique. Which was otherwordly.

Oh, please! The guy had TWENTY fights, 18 of 'em against non-entities.

Ibeabuchi is GROSSLY overrated, as this post demonstrates.:yep

He was overrated. A good solid fighter, but in reality he should have lost a decision against David Tua, which shows where his boxing ability stands.... althought it was a great fight. And Byrd was tooling him before making a rookie mistake and putting his back to the ropes and getting caught. Hell, after that fight Ike had said that he was getting frustrated because he couldn't hit Byrd, and that Byrd was hurting him to the body. Add that to the fact that his ONLY sparring partner said that he was hardly sparring anymore. Ike was never meant to be great. Just another talented guy who didn't have the mental make-up to be a Champion. There are plenty of them out there.

Ibeabuchi had all the tools. Everyone has flaws but his package was damn tough 2 beat.

I once was a FAN:-( I longed for Lewis vs Ibeabuchi:hey

Its sad because IKE BLEW IT, he wasnt robbed:nono The guy is seriously mentally unstable. Its a real waste of talent. From all the reports I've read over the years since his incarceration? It seems he's a waste of life.

I'd like to see the man turn his life around. But getting paroled is far from given and he'll never be close to what he might have been.

How sad it must be for you that you will live your entire life and not recognize the greatness that was Ike Ibeabuchi.

Stick to your forte of rating chins, something Ibeabuchi had plenty of. :good

His defense was average. It actually reminded me a lot of Holyfield's defense.

If Ike did say such a thing , which I somehow doubt he did, I think it's safe to assume the supposed " head pains " were kicking in. Or does Chris Byrd have some inner power that we haven't seen except for in just that one fight?

Ike was one of the biggest wastes of talent ever.

    Along with Golota.

Least Golota is still making a GREAT run. Ike would've been great with great potential bouts. He screwed himself.

Here is a fellow Nigerian by the name of David Izon who DID take 12 rounds of shots from Tua, and this is how it ended....

Ike is, of course, 90% potential, 5% a win in an epic heavyweight slugfest and 5% a win over the then slick Byrd.

IMO he would have probably steamrolled the delicate Wladimir Klitschko (marking him as the best of THIS generation by default), but would never have been the type to dominate the division per se. As was evidenced in parts of both the Tua and Byrd fights he could be outboxed. However, he didnt show me anything that convinces me he could ever beat Lennox or even a 36 year old Holy.

A lot of people look at the fight with Tua and say " He barely beat Tua, a guy who was easily outboxed by lesser fighters " but the thing is.. Ike didn't have to outbox Tua, or keep him at the end of his punches.. because what Tua had wasn't effecting Ibeabuchi which is why he was more than happy to fight on the inside with him.
