Whe i think back to all the fighters so far that my eyes have got to watch i have been pretty well blessed. My generation from watching and following boxing so far can include names like. Mike Tyson Lennox Lewis Evander Holyfield Roy Jones Jr Manny Pacquaio Marvin Hagler Ray Leonard Tommy Hearns Oscar Dela Hoya Floyd Mayweather Jr Shane Mosley Kostya Tszyu Joe Calzaghe Bernard Hopkins Julio C Chavez Pernell Whitaker Jeff Fenech Azumah Nelson Larry Holmes Roberto Duran Julian Jackson Nigel Benn George Foreman 2 Chris Eubanks Felix Trinidad Erik Morales Marco A Barrera Naseem Hamed James Toney Ike Quartey Juan M Marquez Jose L Castillo Diego Corrales Arturo Gatti And so many more i think when oldies talk about what they got when they say names like Ali,Frazier,Robinson,LaMotta,Armstrong etc. I feel that we as fans are getting it pretty dam good. WHO THE HELL SAID BOXING IS DEAD.
The boxers are great - it's boxing itself that's not dead, but dying. The money and politics involved is just ruining it all.
Great list, and I agree. I grew up watching many of the same greats as well, and I to feel blessed. As for boxing's current state, well I still think its in pretty **** poor condition. Most of the men you listed, or at least a good many of them had their best days years ago. The game has declined drastically since I became a fan around 1987.
I believe there needs to be less belts. Just 2 belts i feel. WBC or WBA accounts for the North and South American region. IBF or WBO accounts for the Rest of the world region. The only way to win two belts if you beat the best at your region then they face off once every 2 years. It sounds good in theory but imagine i will give an example. It starts off like this. WBC/WBA Belts at say Lightweight. The 2 title elims have the 1 go up against th 4th best from the region while the 2nd fights against the 3rd. Then the winners fight for title to begin with. So Americas WBC/WBA #1 Juan M Marquez vs #4 Rolando Reyes #2 Edwin Valero vs # 3 Juan Diaz Inter IBF/WBO #1 Michael Katsidis vs #4 John Murray #2 Ali Funeka vs #3 Paulos Moses Stuff IBO and NabF and every other abc to z belts. we need two belts thats it. In regions with them squaring off every two years. That way Promoters would not get as much a say when they became champion and wouldnt be able to protect them. They have to fights the best. Unless they want to move weight. Or even if you dont have regions just two belts. 5 is way to many. WBA/WBC should go back to NBA Belt. WBO and IBF should join and make theres the WBF and IBo should f off. No super Champs no Interim Champs. Just a World Champion.
heres Lists off fighters in there regions. Heavyweight Americas Eddie Chambers John Ruiz Juan Gomez Tony Thompson Chris Arreola Lamon Brewster Kevin Johnson Evander Holyfield Monte Barrett International Wladimir Klitschko Vitali Klitschko David Haye Alexander Povetkin Ruslan Chageav Nikolay Valuev Denis Boytsov Samuel Peter Now i know that is poor for a certain region but i bet it would even out.
Light Heavyweight Americas Bernard Hopkins Chad Dawson Glen Johnson Jean Pascal Antonio Tarver Roy Jones Jr Tavoris Cloud Chris Henry International Clinton Woods Zsolt Erdei Danny Green Nathan Cleverly Juergen Breahmer Beibut Shumenov Hugo Garay Nadjib Mohammedi
Boxing is being ruined and trashed by youngsters like, that dickhead who wears a leather jacket in the summer,Max Cellarman ,who couldnt wipe Merchant's arse. Also by boys under 40 , on Computer forums , who have no business giving an opinion on the pugilistic arts. Roberto Duran ,number 1 lightweight. As if he could beat George Elbows Mcfaddenatsch "Ive seen things, you people wouldn't beleive, attack ships on fire ,off the shores of Orion" Henry Cooper, at the old Wembley Pool jabbing , and hooking ,all the ambition out of Mildenberger. Leotis Martin ,and Thad Spencer , putting on the fight of the year at the RAH. Hagler dissecting a fired up Minter at Wembley . Buchanan ,losing a to 6 rounder to a young Lance Williams, after putting him down ,but running out of gas. Ali fat and happy after regaining the crown from Foreman ,cutting loose on John L Gardner for one round ,just to keep him in his place. "All these will be lost .like tears in rain " "Time to die" Marvellous what a few real ales can do:good
We are blessed. Boxing isn't the mainstream sport it used to be, but there will be great fighters and great fights in every era. But for me it's not just about the greats, it's about everyone who contributes to make boxing what it is, whether they're tomato cans or champs, cornermen or commentators. What's so great is that the internet has allowed us boxing fans and enthusiasts from all over the world to come together and discuss the sport in a way that previous generations could not do. It'd broadened our perspectives and allowed for information sharing in a way which was impossible before.
Blessed indeed, but not just because of the great fighters you've listed here, but also because you can see all of the great fighters, all of the great fighters ever caught on film. Whereas you know the grace and artistry of Ali, the inspiring relentlessness of Joe Frazier, we have only glimpses of the greats before our time. Sketchy, fuzzy, and few are our looks at the Charley Burleys and Willie Peps and Billy Grahams of the game.
Yeah but in my generation i got to see both thats what i meant. I was born in the 70's so i got to watch the 80'- 90's and now 00's. The last 30 years have been great.
