i have waited along time for joe to get beat. i wanted him to fight roy in 1999
but that never happened. then the worse thing happend at 39 roy vs joe was made.

jones said he never tryed to box joe he tryed to look for one punch after the knock down.

it has been a bad day for the best roy jones fan. i have been feeling down.

i mean joe came inches away from roy with his hands down. prime roy would have checked his chin with combos at that point. but this verson just did not want to throw.
i think joe could feel roys power going away from the 4th.

    guys your views

i truely beleave roy would have beat joe. i mean if you take the joe from the lacy fight and put him in with the roy that beat tony. roy would have won. even the one from the clinton woods fight.

jones had a different attitude. he went out and was not afraid to be hit he would go out and toy with his victims.
he fought better when it was big fights.

Cousin, I feel you. I have been down since the fight. He is a hero. Despite the hardships he faced, he is still seen as invincible to some. When I saw that cut, man, my people and I wanted to pinch ourselves. Could not believe ROY was bleeding. To make matters worse, we thought it would be STOPPED. His left arm was bothering us during the ring walk. Knew something was not right when he did not bother to thrash Joe with a single left hook. Joe fought fabulous. Just wish it was against someone else' hero.

I have posted this two times now on other topics so people might start getting pissed. But i feel ya. I really down in the dumps for some reason- he is my idol! Seeing Roy getting knocked out be Tarver the first time was bad, but he got up! Seeing him on the canvas with his head up and shaking slightly from Johnson iwas a terrible sight every time i see it. Seeing him in Tarver 3 was bad when he got caught in the second half of the fight with a counter and was wobbling badly and struggling to survive. And now against Joe Calzaghw with a awful gash on his face and blood everywhere- impairing not only his vision but his plan for the fight.
If he fought Joe at the time instead of Woods i believe he would have won. Even if he fought Joe instead of Tarver for the first time after Ruiz i think he would have won. At that time it would definitely have been more difficult( the weight issue) but i think it would have been really close and Jones probably would have won by 2 rounds or SD.
Its weird though how after being KO'd twice in the Tarver 3 fight- round 5. He absolutely dominated him and i think the best round he ever had with Tarver out of their 3 fights. If only he could have summoned that magic one more time last night even for just 5,6 rounds. He would have had a 10-8 round like last night, possibly in another round aswell and would have got enough extra rounds to get a split decision victory.

Now in reference to a Prime Roy, Prime Joe and age issues and such:

People keep saying they are both old n not too far off each other in age to justify the fight.
But truth is sportsmen and women peak at different ages and Joe is closer to his prime than Roy is. Roy was sooo much further away from his prime.
Roys prime was when he was around 27-29(10-12 years ago) and Calzaghe when he was 31,32 (4,5 years ago)
Even if Roy fought Joe in his prime, after he had beaten Clinton Woods,Roy still would have won just and i feel by a close split decision(being 6yrs past it).
The fight proved Prime Roy> Prime Joe
Roy knocked Joe down at 39 and was way past his prime. I'm not saying that if they had met in their prime Roy would have absolutely demolished Joe.
Joe in his prime used to be more powerful in his shots. A bit faster in hands and footwork. But still a great tactician with superb relexes, footwork and audacity.
Roy was barely 20% of his proper self. His legs used to much more stronger and dynamic. And stronger, quicker legs mean better footwork and much more powerful shots. Roys stamina was 10x better and he would have thrown 10x as many punches and also the very quick single potshots and flurries when needed with no detrimental effects on his stamina.
Roy was faster in a single punch than Joe yesterday and in their primes he would have been faster not only in the potshots but he definitely could have gave Joe those flurries back at the same speed but with more power.
If the they met in their primes:
I believe with his quickness of foot he would have been able to close in on Joe land a combo like yesterday but with even more power- somewhere in the first 3 rounds. Joe would have went down, BUT got up! Joe would have been more dazed than he was yesterday and Roy would have tried to finish it off maybe.(Roy doesnt always finish of his opponents though as we all know- Roy knows that fighters can be at their most dangerous when they are hurt).
If he did Joe would have returned with quick powerful flurries and caught Roy with a great shot or 2. Roy wouldnt have been cut/ gone down as he had better resistance in his prime and because of his reflexes would have rolled with the shots and weakened them. ( Cuts wouldn't have been an issue like yesterday. Even if Roy wasn't cut Joe most probably would have won still but not by as many rounds as he did last nite.)
Then i think Roy would have decided to try and out box Joe for the majority of the fight. This is when Joe would have turned up the pace and force Roy to the ropes and flurry like hell. But i think Roy would have weathered the storm and also returned with his own quick n powerful flurries. By doing so Joe would have backed off and in terms of scoring would have been more or less equal.
Than Roy would have took it to the centre of the ring and outboxed Joe slightly with each feinting constantly and slipping and weaving each others shots bit Jones winning on cleaner, more powerful counterpunches( primarily lead right hands and left hooks to the body and a few lead uppercuts). They both would have landed on each other, but Roy would be ahead on the score cards because of the extra power effectiveness. This would have continued to Roy winning a UD with Joe winning at least 4 rounds, give or take. Or another route this fight could have been by Roy beating Joe be a TKO in one of the last 3 rounds. Joe would have felt the urge to up the pressure and win and by doing so become slightly careless. By this time Jones' stamina would have most certainly held up and Roy would have knocked Joe down. Joe would have got up and Roy would have gone for the kill landing some hard shots with Joe off his feet than the ref would have stepped in.
They would then go on to have a rematch for another close and worthy fight with the result going one way or the other.

Calzaghe is past his prime also you know! their is only two years difference betwee them. I honestly believe if they had a fight with them both being in there prime it would be a close fight, Calzaghe just edging it in my eyes:) and I know you bias yanks will tear me apart for this comment but so ****. Joe Calzaghe is one of the greatest boxers of the era if not the best, but doesnt get the credit:) there is nobody out there that could beat him.
